Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) Programs
Mercer County Community College offers Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency (ABE/HSE) classes to adults who have not completed high school. This program provides an alternate way for adults to improve their basic skills, prepare for, and earn a high school diploma in an adult environment.
These classes prepare an individual in the following subject areas:
Once you pass the NJ State HSE exam, the actual diploma is issued by the New Jersey State Department of Education and states that you have met all requirements to be a high school graduate. The diploma is recognized by many employers and colleges as being equivalent to a high school diploma.
If you are at least 16 years of age, you can enter the program. Minors must complete a "Certificate of Consent" form, which can be obtained at the ABE/HSE office.
Contact the Adult Education Department for scheduled dates for Information sessions.
Classes are offered at various sites in the Trenton area. Most class locations are near public transportation. For your convenience, classes are available in the morning, afternoon and evening.
Because students, through previous education and experience, have achieved varying levels of mastery in each of the basic skills areas, they have different learning needs. Instruction provided at Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) levels.
