Youth Corps

What is Youth Corps?

Youth Corps is a state-wide program designed to help people 16-25 years old, who want to complete their high school education and gain valuable work experience. Sponsored by the James Kerney Campus of Mercer County Community College, the Trenton Youth Corps is located in Ewing Township. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30-3:30.

Through a combination of classes for the GED test and community service, Youth Corps members acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to find gainful employment, job training, or go to college. Personal and career counseling guide the students in solving problems that may have hindered success in the past.

Community Service work sites are assigned to develop strong employability skills, team work and commitment. Work sites are project-oriented and include urban renewal, renovation and construction, landscaping, park beautification, child and senior care, hospital service, or clerical and administrative support for project organizations.

Eligible students must score an eight grade reading level on the TABE test. This test is given every Friday 9:00-1:00, at the James Kerney Campus in room KC 223. Each potential student must complete an application and be interviewed by a staff member.
