SPRING 2013 NOTES:
in the past, Honors courses have each made a 10-minute presentation to the honors community at the end-of-semester symposium. The goal of the presentation should be to introduce the audience to compelling findings or ideas from the course.
--The presentations may be selective (i.e. represent the work of a subset of students) or collaborative (all or most students come together to give an overview or focused examination of important content).
--The presentations may function as an answer to one of these kinds of questions/challenges: How does this course change students' understanding about creating knowledge? How can you illustrate what it means to think like a psychologist, sociologist, literary critic, historian, philosopher, mathematician, scientist, etc? What could or should be the impact of an idea or approach you explored in the course on the world today? Give an example of how the knowledge you gained from this course could make positive change in the world, whether small or large-scale. Explain what creativity looks like in this discipline, this course.
--The symposium presentation may count either as an aspect of class participation or emerge from graded assignments. Since some students may have legitimate conflicts with the symposium, collaborative projects should be conceived so these students still have a meaningful way to contribute.
