Thank you for your interest in pursuing an OTA degree from Rutgers, and completing pre-requisite courses at Mercer County Community College. The OTA program at Rutgers has agreements with numerous community colleges in New Jersey.
Pre-requisite courses required by the OTA program, all of which can be completed here at Mercer County Community College:
The Rutgers School of Health Professions Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions Department has announced the transition of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program from an Associate Degree to a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. In light of this transition, they have suspended admissions into the part-time option as of Fall 2022. They will be accepting their last full-time cohort in the Fall of 2023. Rutgers will continue to honor the terms therein for students who have already declared interest in the program and who have been admitted and enrolled in Mercer County Community College either prior to or for the Fall 2021 term, and who plan on enrolling in SHP in Fall 2023.
To apply for the last full-time cohort being accepted in the Fall of 2023, applicants must be ready to apply by the June 1st deadline. All but two pre-requisite courses must be completed and submitted to Rutgers by June 1st. Up to two courses can be in progress at the time of application, but Anatomy & Physiology I must be completed.
Applying by the June 1, 2023 deadline does not guarantee acceptance. Those who are not accepted into the last full-time cohort in the Fall of 2023, can consider communicating with Rutgers for information about the BS degree in OTA, or consider earning an Associate’s Degree in a different field of study.
