Applying to MCCC

  • Register to become a Mercer CCC student. (This will provide applicants with a student ID and password.) Mercer is an open-door institution which welcomes applications from students 18 years or older who possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Students seeking admission to Medical Laboratory Technology should complete the college's general application and take the appropriate academic placement test to determine their first courses in English and mathematics.
  • Make sure that the major selected is "Health Science AAS: MLT".
  • Have official transcripts from any other educational institutions sent to the Admissions Office at Mercer as soon as possible. (Track it by logging into your "MyMercer" page from Mercer's website www.mccc.edu with the new ID & Password to make sure Mercer has received them. The student/learner has the responsibility to ensure that Mercer receives official transcript(s).)
    • In general, you can expect to receive credit for any college courses in which you earned a grade of "C" or higher within 2 attempts if it is comparable to a course required in the program. Transfer credits will be awarded for any equivalent pre-professional phase course taken within the past 10 years.
    • Equivalent professional phase courses must have been completed within the past 5 years with a grade of C+ or higher within 2 attempts from a NAACLS approved program
  • Take a course here at Mercer as soon as possible to set the Date of Matriculation (the date of matriculation is not established until a course has been completed at Mercer with "Health Science: AAS: MLT" is the listed major.)
  • Continue to take any remaining courses needed to fulfill all pre-requisites.
  • Contact or meet with a MLT Program faculty member once a semester to make sure that the courses that have been selected are on the right track!

Once you have been admitted to MCCC, you are considered to be in a “pre-petition status” for the Medical Laboratory Technician program. Initially, students will be accepted into the access program, Health Science - MLT, preparing to earn a seat in the professional phase of the MLT program. Your next step is to complete the Medical Laboratory Technician Petition Requirements and submit the Petition to Commence the Professional Phase of the Medical Laboratory Program to be considered for acceptance into the Medical Laboratory MLT courses as described in the Petition Process
