MCCC Softball Coach Announces New Additions to Roster

7/27/06

Ryan Zegarski, head coach of the women's softball team at Mercer County Community College, has announced eight new players who will join the team for the 2006-07 academic year. Coming off two highly successful seasons in which the Vikings twice lost by one run in the Region 19 final, Zegarski believes that the team is realizing its goal of attracting talented players to fill in the roster as the sophomores move on. Zegarski has combined for a 52-30 record since he took over the program two years ago after several seasons when the team record was under .500.

"At a two-year school, we need to identify gifted high school players and attract them to our program," Zegarski said. "The benefits to the players are real. With the right commitment from them, these girls will get a lot of playing time in a competitive environment. Our goal is to help them improve their game and develop their athletic potential, while also giving them the foundation they need to succeed in the classroom." Six players from Mercer's 2006 team are continuing their academic and playing careers at four-year colleges this fall.
