Chris Freihaut, Michelle MacInnes, and Ya-Ting Hsu  received Scholar Athlete Awards in recognition of their academic and athletic achievements during the Honors Convocation at Mercer County Community College on May 30 prior to commencement exercises.

Freihaut was an infielder on the Mercer Baseball Team for the past two years and served as team captain this season.  The team went to the NJCAA World Series in May, after winning six straight games in the Region 19 and Northeast District II Tournaments.  His season batting average was over .400 and he was selected to the All-Region 19 and All-GSAC Teams.  Mercer won more than 50 games in his two years as a player.  Freihaut will transfer to Richard Stockton College in the fall, where he will continue to play baseball and pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.

MacInnes was a two-year member of both the Women’s Soccer Team and the Women’s Basketball Team.  As a midfielder on the soccer team, she helped Mercer win the Region 19 championship in 2001; as a guard on the basketball team, she helped the Lady Vikes to their fifth consecutive regional title in 2002.  MacInnes graduates with an AAS degree in Advertising Design and will transfer to Monmouth University in the fall.

Hsu played on the Women’s Tennis Team for the past two seasons, helping her team reach the NJCAA National Championships both years and earn the title in 2002.  She earned All-Region honors both years and was named an All-American.  She plans to major in Biology/Chemistry at her transfer school.
