West Windsor,
N.J. -- Soccer players Frank Tweneboa and Kasey Kenny headline the
list of Mercer County Community College student-athletes who earned
postseason honors this fall. Both players have been nominated as
National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-Americans.
Tweneboa and Kenny were the top selections for Region 19 first-team
honors in men's soccer and women's soccer, respectively. They also
were Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) first-team selections.
Tweneboa (Pennsauken, N.J.) collected three goals and seven assists
for coach Charlie Inverso's Vikings, who finished the season with
a 14-2 record. He was joined on the Region 19 and GSAC men's soccer
first teams by teammates Amit Aburmad (Tel Aviv, Israel) and Sean
Duble (West Cocoa, Fla.). Aburmad, a sophomore midfielder, led the
Vikings in goals (13) and assists (8), while Duble, a freshman,
was the starting goalkeeper. Sophomore midfielder Ido Ligety (Tivan,
Israel) was named to the GSAC first team.
In women's soccer, Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.), a forward, finished
her sophomore season with 31 goals, which gave her 60 in her two-year
career. A second-team All-American in 2008, Kenny added six assists
for coach Jodie Ricciardi's squad, which finished the season with
a 16-5-1 record. Freshman back Marissa Segal (East Windsor, N.J.)
joined Kenny on the Region 19 and GSAC first teams. In addition,
freshman midfielders Samantha Biondi (Hamilton, N.J.) and Caitlin
Wilson (West Windsor, N.J.) made the GSAC first team and Region
19 second team; and sophomore forward Carolyn Walters (Hamilton,
N.J.) and freshman goalie Brianna Byrne (East Windsor, N.J.) made
the Region 19 and GSAC second teams.
In women's tennis, sophomore Kristina Holsman (Hamilton, N.J.) was
named to the GSAC first team at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Maria Eldridge
(Lawrence, N.J.), who led the Vikings with 11 singles wins, and
freshman Sachiko Nishida (Princeton, N.J.) both made the finals
at the Region 19 championships and were selected for the Region
19 second team. Eldridge earned the honors at No. 4 singles and
Nishida at No. 6 singles. Coach Marc Vecchiolla's squad finished
4-7 in dual matches and third at the region tournament.
