West Windsor, N.J. – The men’s soccer team had a commanding performance in its 5-0 victory over Essex Community College in the Region 19 seminfinal round, played at MCCC Oct. 23. With a 1-0 lead at halftime on a goal by sophomore defender Sascha Haecker, the men played an almost flawless second half on both offense and defense. Sophomores Trevor Lamb and Carlos Torres each added a goal, and freshman forward Sergio Ojeda-Bermemo scored the final two.
In goal for the Viking was freshman John Richards. Also in goal was Johnny Enriquez.
“This was a very good win,” said first year head coach Widmarc (Tigana) Dalce. “Everyone had a chance to play and everyone contributed to the win.”
With a record of 8-7-1 heading into the game, the Vikings have been coming on strong, according to Dalce. “It’s been happening since the start of October,” he observed. “They are working hard and staying together as a team.”
Before game time, Dalce used the example of last year’s NFL Giants, who beat expectations to win the Super Bowl. “I tell my guys to take it one game at a time. I make them believe in me and I believe in them.”
The Vikings will face Burlington in the Region 19 final at Ocean County College on Saturday.
