Top-Ranked MCCC Baseball Team Advances To
Regional Tournament May 2-3

4/29/03

With uncooperative weather through much of the spring season, the Men's Baseball Team didn't play as many games as it does in a typical year.  But the results were just as solid.  After some tough losses early on, the Vikings settled into a winning pattern that earned them a first place ranking in both Region 19 and the Garden State Athletic Conference with a 17-9 record.

This year's Region 19 Tournament will be held at Mercer and adjacent Mercer County Park on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3.  The Vikings' first game is on May 2 at 11 a.m. They will face the winner of a match-up between Brookdale and Sussex.

Head Coach Randy Voorhees notes that his players have performed well and grown as a team this season.  Standouts include infielders Joe Hernandez and Gene Darling, outfielder Charlie Iacono, and #1 pitcher Adam Shaffer.  First baseman Chris Freihaut has achieved at a very high level both on the field and in the classroom.
