High Fashion Comes to Trenton During "Fashion Night Out" Runway Show for MCCC Fashion Design Students

6/4/13

TRENTON – High fashion took to the runway at Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Trenton Campus May 17, with Fashion Design students putting their best foot forward for the second annual presentation of their work during "Fashion Night Out."

'We started this program here in the city, as we know that fashion has strong connections to urban settings," said MCCC President Dr. Patricia Donohue. “We are very pleased that the program is thriving, and students are coming to the Trenton Campus to study Fashion Design."

A total of eleven collections were presented by student designers and stylists, modeled for the audience to the beat of urban contemporary music and high-energy lighting. Collections ranged from designer Christina Guillaume’s "Aztec Culture" to "Sophisticated Punk Mixed With Business," a collection by stylists Tashanique Purnell and Johnett Gofargar. Asia Mack, president of the MCCC Fashion Forward Club and coordinator for the show, served as mistress of ceremonies.

Fifteen models, a mix of MCCC Fashion students and friends and family of the designers and stylists, brought the collections to life on the runway.

According to Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising program coordinator Allegra Ceci, the spring fashion show is a major highlight of the learning experience.

"It’s a chance for students to share their work," Ceci said. "It’s all a great background for the field."

Attending the show was Tammy Duffy, a professional fashion designer and MCCC alumna. Duffy said she was impressed with the designs and is pleased with the expansion of the college’s Fashion Design program.

"I think everyone did a great job," Duffy said. "I have seen the program grow over the last couple of years, and it is great to see that."

Other designers presenting were Iris Gonzalez with "Summer"; Cory Flounoy with "Ready to Wear: Fresh Off the Runway"; and Ryan Ramoo with "Lacy Dreams."

Other collections that made their debut during "Fashion Night Out" include presentations by stylists Anika Maram with "Floral Riviera"; Vidal Anderson with "Boho"; Asia Mack and Ciera Smith with "The New Classic"; Nora Okoro with "African Safari"; and Terence Ingram with "Baddie."
