High-Tech Offerings Are Hot Courses at MCCC’s Center for Continuing Studies

WEST WINDSOR – An improving economy will mean a higher demand for high-tech jobs, and Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Center for Continuing Studies (CCS) will be offering courses this Spring to help fulfill those needs.
A "Back to School Night for Adults" will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Conference Center at Mercer, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor, for individuals interested in exploring career development options in high-tech fields, healthcare, and many other areas.
"Imports are starting to increase, and empty warehouse space is filling up," said Carol Clark, CCS director. "These facilities deal in high-volume work with automated equipment. They need employees with computer training, and individuals with the skills to safeguard sophisticated systems from cyber attacks."
In response to employer needs, CCS recently added two new courses that focus on rapid growth areas: Introduction to Automation Using Programmable Logic Controllers, and a certificate program in IT Risk Management/Cyber Security.
The Introduction to Automation Using Programmable Logic Controllers course runs from Jan. 4 to March 29 and is designed for electricians, industrial maintenance mechanics/automation technicians and energy management systems operators. The course focuses on manufacturing and service company settings where efficiency and cost reductions are being implemented through automated systems.
The IT Risk Management/Cyber Security certificate program offers comprehensive instruction designed to protect computer systems from hackers, viruses, worms, and other threats to confidential information. The cyber security course, which runs from March 3 to April 23, is geared toward information technology professionals and chief information officers, as well as others charged with safeguarding business computer networks.
