Procedure for Campus Emergencies
From Michael E. Flaherty, Commanding Officer, College Safety & Security: We greatly appreciate your feedback from our recent college safety survey. One of the challenges presented in a number of the responses was when and whom you should notify in the event of an emergency. Please note that the National 911 Program defines an “emergency” as any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance. Examples include a fire, a crime (especially in progress), an automobile accident, especially in the case of personal injury, or a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
If you find yourself in doubt, we urge you to call 911. While our College Safety and Security staff serves as a capable team for “front line” support, it has limitations. If you do call 911, we in College Safety ask that you also call our security desk (ext. 3200 or 3503-24/7 and regardless of campus) but only if the time and circumstances permit.
It is important to know that our phone system requires that you dial “9” in order to reach an outside line. If you elect to call 911 and you are using a telephone line on the MCCC telephone system you must dial 9 FIRST. 9-911.
If your desktop computer does not have the ALERTUS Desktop “Panic Button" -- the quickest way to alert campus safety and security officers -- please contact the ITS office at ext. 4357. Procedures for using this system are available here: https://mlink.mccc.edu/security.shtml. Please use ext. 3503 (WWC) or ext. 3175 (JKC), available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, to report a non-emergency or to request routine assistance or information.
If you require further assistance or have questions, please contact Commander Flaherty or Lieutenant Commander Pollard and we will be glad to assist you.
