Rutgers and William Paterson University will hold information sessions next week for students interested in bachelor's degree programs on the MCCC campus. Rutgers will host an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 4-6 p.m. in the Student Center to discuss programs in Criminal Justice, Labor Studies, Political Science, and the RN to BS Nursing program. WPU will host an information session on Thursday, Oct. 8, from noon to 1 p.m. in SC104 to answer questions regarding degrees in History, Political Science, English, Psychology, Sociology, and Early Childhood Education. Lunch will be provided.
Counseling Services invites everyone to the Mental Wellness Resource Fair at the West Windsor Campus Student Center on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to discover the resources available on campus and in the community. How a local facility helped make the Apollo moon landing possible – and ultimately helped end the Cold War – will be the topic of a presentation at MCCC as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series. “To the Moon and Back: How a Local Facility Paved the Way and Helped Win the Cold War” will be the subject of a lecture by Mark Calhoun, Vice President of the Johnsville Centrifuge and Science Museum in Bucks County, Pa., at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 14 in CM108. Career Services will host a job fair in the Student Center on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thirty-five companies are expected to participate. In anticipation of the job fair, a resume workshop will be held the week before, on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at noon in ET217.
A tenth anniversary party for a power couple sure sounds like a lovely way to spend an evening – unless you are on the guest list for “Rumors,” Neil Simon’s hilarious send-up of the privileged class. The Yardley Players present one of Simon’s most celebrated comedies Oct. 23-Nov. 1 at Kelsey Theatre. Read more here.
MCCC will have the opportunity to help train the next generation of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teachers, thanks to a $250,000 grant from the National Science Foundation and a partnership with William Paterson University. Read more here.
Over the last three games, the Vikings men's soccer team has scored 16 goals, while allowing only one, and are currently ranked fifth in the nation in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, with a record of 11-0-1. The team is on the road this weekend, then plays at home at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Camden. The team's final home game of the regular season is at 5 p.m. Oct. 21 against CCBC-Essex (MD).
Area residents are encouraged to bring their appetites to a culinary tasting event hosted by MCCC's Culinary Arts program, featuring more than a dozen of the region’s finest restaurants. Oct. 16: Art Show at Hopewell Gallery. Visual Arts Professor Kyle Stevenson will display his work at the Morpeth Contemporary gallery, 43 West Broad Street, Hopewell. "Finished Work" runs Oct. 16 to Nov. 2, with an opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visit the Morpeth Contemporary website here.
Oct. 17: Discover Mercer Open House. From 9 a.m. to noon. Spread the word to neighbors, relatives and friends! Nov. 2-5: Call for Gallery Entries: High School Teachers and Students.
The Gallery at Mercer is creating an exhibit focusing on area high school art teachers and their students. Help spread the word to high school teachers you may know. The show will feature the teachers and students they select. Submissions may be dropped off from Nov. 2 to 5; the exhibit will be on display from Nov. 16 to Dec. 8. Read more details here.
Through Dec. 1: Holocaust Center Film Series. The Holocaust-Genocide Resource Center presents"The Courage to Care" with Dr. Carol Rittner on Oct. 13; "The Long Way Home" on Oct. 27; "Year Zero: The Silent Death of Cambodia" on Nov. 17; and "Ghosts of Rwanda" on Dec. 1. In addition, the center will feature "Movies at Night" from 6-8 p.m. on Nov. 3 with "Genocide: Worse Than War." Several other events are scheduled for the fall semester. Through Dec. 7: Exercise Classes. Yoga and Zumba are offered through the Student Life and Leadership office. Zumba is offered in the gym on Tuesdays through Dec. 1, from noon to 1 p.m. Yoga is offered Monday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in PE225 through Dec. 7 and Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. in the gym through Dec. 2.
