Six Men’s Soccer Players Named to All Region 19 Team

West Windsor, N.J. -- Three MCCC men’s soccer players were named to the All-Region 19 First Team led by sophomore forward Samuel Destine (Union, NJ/Union HS) who was named the Region 19 Player of the Year. Destine was joined on the first team by sophomore forward Jimmy Baars (Kudelstaart, Netherlands/Alkwin Kollege) and sophomore back Yehonatan Sabag (Rishon Lezion, Israel/Amiron HS).

Freshman back Dillon Du Toit (Johannesburg, South Africa/Waterstone College), freshman midfielder Zoumana Konate (Piscataway, NJH/West Windsor Plainsboro South) and sophomore Ignacio Olguin (Santiago, Chile/Colegio del Valle) were all named to the All-Region 19 Second Team.

Destine finished the season with 8 goals in 13 games including 3 game-winning goals. Baars had 6 goals and 4 assists in 15 games and Sabag added 3 goals and 5 assists in 15 games.

Olguin had 4 assists and 2 goals in 16 games this season, Konate added 3 assists and 1 goal and Du Toit helped anchor a Vikings defense that was first in the nation in shutouts with 11 on the season.

In addition to a strong defense, the Vikings dominated the offensive end of the pitch as well, scoring 59 goals in 16 games, which was 10th best in the nation. Mercer men’s soccer was ranked as high as 11th in the nation this fall. The Vikings finished the season 12-4-1.
