West Windsor, N.J. -- Former Mercer Men’s Soccer Head Coach Charlie Inverso has announced he is retiring from college coaching. Inverso began his coaching career at MCCC, where he led the Vikings for 24 seasons from 1986-2009, compiling a 434-46-14 record. Inverso has the highest winning percentage of any men’s soccer coach in NJCAA history. Inverso led the Vikings men’s team to the NJCAA National Championship 18 of his 24 years at Mercer. Under his helm, the Vikings won 5 national titles, the last coming in 2004.

Inverso has spent 36 years in the college coaching ranks, moving from MCCC to Rutgers University as an Assistant Coach followed by his most recent and final stop as Head Coach at Rider University from 2011-2022. Inverso coached his final collegiate game last Wednesday night at Rider, a 1-0 win over Canisius.

Between his time at Mercer and Rider, 16 former players have gone on to play at the professional level nationally and internationally. Over 150 of Inverso’s former players graduated from MCCC or transferred to four year schools and 40 went on to become college or high school coaches.

Inverso was a member of the 2021 inaugural class of the MCCC Athletic Hall of Fame.
