West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will be holding open recruitment for its women’s basketball program ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The Lady Vikings are a nationally recognized team competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II. Since 1998, the team has amassed several awards, including 14 consecutive winning seasons and seven NJCAA Region 19 titles.
The program allows many athletes to make the jump from junior college to the NCAA. Most recently, starting forward Nadine Elamary used her time at Mercer to transfer to Rutgers University, Newark.
This season, the Lady Vikings are continuing their commitment to excellence under the direction of hall of fame coach Reggie Murray. Murray, who completed a 32-year, 600-win tenure at Trenton Central High School, brings to the program a record of ensuring student-athletes meet their goals on and off the court.
“I want to continue teaching players the game of basketball and life skills,” Murray said. “[I want to] continue the MCCC legacy in recruiting the finest, most hard-working student athletes for the team, and to continue to encourage that education and maintaining good grades are important to the game.”
Following a practice season in the fall, the Lady Vikings will begin regular season play this January. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, MCCC Athletics is taking extensive measures to keep student athletes safe, including increasing sanitation of surfaces and protective equipment surfaces and access to protective equipment like face masks and shields.
Athletes are also eligible for tuition assistance in the form of scholarships, as well as access to a host of support resources like subject-specific tutoring and career counseling.
