West Windsor, N.J. - Every year when Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Athletics Director John Simone welcomes new athletes, he stresses that working hard on the courts or field is just one half of the job.
“You are students first,” Simone said at Viking Baseball’s First Pitch Dinner, which kicks off the season. “I don’t have any problem pulling you from competition if you aren’t putting in the effort in the classroom. Nor do your coaches.”
Likewise, Simone and his staff works tirelessly to ensure their student-athletes have all the resources at their disposal to impress on and off the field. Efforts from both sides, students and staff, have culminated in 11 athletes earning National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-Americans for the 2019-2020 school year.
Athletes from seven of Mercer’s 10 teams were represented on the NJCAA’s Academic All-American teams.
