Somerset N.J. – The next stage of Sid Kumar’s baseball career will take place with the Somerset Patriots.
The former Mercer County Community College (MCCC) power hitter and infielder announced that he signed with the Patriots on Monday, July 13.
At Mercer, Kumar suited up alongside fellow future professional players Nick Snyder, Andrew DiPiazza and Andrew Pugliese. The 2017 team, which featured Kumar at first base, boasted a 48-14 record and made a run at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II title. That year, which was MCCC’s second straight trip to nationals, the Vikings ended as runners up, dropping the championship game to Kankakee Community College.
After two years at Mercer, his collegiate career took him first to Tennessee Wesleyan University (TWU) and then to Missouri Baptist University (MBU). Following the 2018 season at TWU, during which Kumar hit three home runs and earned a 0.418 on base percentage, Kumar participated in the 13th Annual Power Showcase, an amateur home run derby.
Fans first chance to see Kumar in action will be in mid-July, when the Somerset Patriots will begin scrimmaging the New Jersey Blasters. The 12 game schedule will begin on July 17, and will run six consecutive weeks with games on Friday and Saturday nights at TD Bank Arena.
