Levittown, P.a. – Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) softball program continues to fill out its roster for its anticipated return to action in 2021, adding Madelynn Hower as the team’s latest recruit.
Hower hails from Harry S. Truman High School, where she played alongside current MCCC Lady Viking Haley Carter. A utility player, Hower has experience as a catcher, outfielder and third baseman.
“I chose Mercer because of the opportunity to continue the sport I love while being able to prepare my self for a four-year program, instead of rushing into a big school,” Hower said. “I hope we can build a strong bond and compete as a team, because you can’t win a game alone.”
“She is a versatile and aggressive athlete,” softball Head Coach Ryan Zegarski said, noting Hower has shown a deal of mental toughness. Since 2018, her high school team has played every game on the road, awaiting field renovations to its home field.
Hower also has a positive reputation in the senior Little League circuit, in which she played for Levittown United Senior Softball Team. In 2019, she and her team went undefeated, winning the section, state and regional championships before earning a trip to nationals, where they placed fifth.
Outside of softball, Hower holds a 3.5 GPA, plays field hockey and performs in theatre.
