Multi-Sensory Exhibit Opens at The Gallery Jan. 27
A true multi-sensory trifecta of olfactory, tactile and visual awaits visitors at The Gallery at Mercer for the latest exhibition entitled “Searching for the Cultural Plumb Bob,” on display Jan. 27 through March 5 featuring the works of Uzbekistan native Zahar Vaks. The public is invited to “A Conversation With Artist, Zahar Vaks,” on Wednesday,  Feb. 5 from noon until 1:30 p.m. in CM107. A community reception with the artist will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 in The MCCC Gallery. Read more here.

 

Student Success Workshop Jan. 28
Help your students get off on the right foot with the Student Success Workshop! Fulton Bank Blood Drive Jan. 30
On Thursday, Jan. 30, MCCC and Fulton Bank of New Jersey will be hosting a Blood Drive. Donate at the Student Center, SC104 from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Take take an hour to help save a life by donating blood. See the flyer  here. Read more here.

 

Life is a 'Cabaret' at Kelsey Theatre Jan. 31-Feb. 9
Kelsey Theatre and Theater To Go continue to push the boundaries this season with the landmark musical production “Cabaret.” This 1998 revival of the 1966 Broadway hit harkens back to authoritarian 1930s Germany where nightlife at the smokey Kit Kat Klub offers a refuge for escapists. Decadence, sexual ambiguity and good times are the norm until a dark turn brings everything to an end. A timeless musical drama that hasn’t lost its punch, Cabaret” runs from Jan. 31 through Feb. 9. Read more here.

 

International Fashion Show Kicks Off Black History Month at MCCC Feb. 1
“Destination vs. Reality” is the theme for MCCC's 2020 observance of Black History Month. The celebration kicks off with a Fashion Show Scholarship Event at JKC on Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will see minority vendors selling a variety of products, as well as performances from a live band formed by MCCC Alumni. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Feb. 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Kerney Hall on the James Kerney Campus, and will feature a luncheon catered by Smoke House Grill. The keynote speaker is Minister Gerald Truehart of Lion of Judah Studio and New Horizon Baptist Church. For a complete listing of events, click here.

 

 

Harm Reduction and Drug Use Is Lecture Topic Feb. 12
Harm reduction with regard to drug use in America will be the topic of a the first MCCC Distinguished Lecture for Spring 2020. Michael James Prohaska will deliver his lecture “Pragmatism vs. Puritanism: Harm Reduction Policies Applied to Drug Use in the United States” on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at noon in CM108. Call for College Catalog Updates; Due Feb. 21 
The 2020-21 College Catalog is now in production, with content review [current edition here] and updates being solicited college-wide. Anyone with updates to contribute should contact the point person (dean, director, supervisor, coordinator, etc.) for the area involved. That person likely received notification this week for submitting any revisions for their area. For further assistance, contact Brad Kent in Publications at ext. 3772 or kentb@mccc.edu.

 

MCCC Foundation Now Accepting Scholarship  Applications
The MCCC Foundation is encouraging all faculty, adjuncts, staff, advisors, coaches, and mentors to remind students to complete an application as early as possible for MCCC Foundation Scholarships. The application period is now open. MCCC Recognizes 27 Nursing Graduates at 2020 Winter Pinning Ceremony
Family and friends, administrators, faculty members and staff gathered to celebrate and cheer on 27 nursing graduates at MCCC’s West Windsor Campus Sunday evening, Jan. 19 at the Winter 2020 Nursing Education Pinning Ceremony. The event marked the completion of the students’ requirements for an associate degree in Nursing. Read more here.

 

MCCC Partners with Insurance Companies to offer Licensing Training
The spring semester at the Center for Continuing Studies is beginning with a new partnership to prepare employees for insurance licensing. The Insurance Pre-Licensing Education course features two offerings: Property Insurance and Casualty Insurance. Both courses run 40-hours and are designed to meet and exceed the required learning objectives in line with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. Read more here.

 

YWCA’s Breast Cancer Research Comes up Big at Think Pink Fundraiser
Visitors to Mercer’s Athletics Building thought Valentine’s Day came early on Tuesday, Jan. 21, when the college hosted its 10th annual Think Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The Vikings’ gymnasium was the color of carnations as the college partnered with the Princeton YWCA to fundraise for the its Breast Cancer Research Center. The fundraiser, which saw donations from area vendors up for raffle, raised more than $300. Read more here. See the Facebook album here.

 

Viking in the Spotlight: Men's Basketball Player Alex Lin
NJ Hoops has named MCCC men's basketball player Alexander Lin the NJ Junior College Player of the Week. The freshman forward is currently tenth in the nation for three-point percentage, connecting on almost 50 percent of his three-point shots. Read more here

 


Reminders

Through May 6: Lunchtime Yoga, Zumba.   The Student Life and Leadership Department sponsors Yoga and Zumba classes for students, faculty, and staff. Monday Evening Yoga begins Feb. 10 and runs through May 4  in PE225 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday Zumba starts Feb. 11 and continues through May 5 in the Gym from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday Lunchtime Yoga begins Feb. 12 and runs through May 6 in the Gym from noon to 1 p.m. (No Classes the Week of Spring Break March 16-20).
