WEST WINDSOR, NJ – A new academic agreement between Mercer County Community College (MCCC) and Stockton University will allow students who earn their associates degrees at MCCC to seamlessly transfer into Stockton’s Visual Arts Program where they will pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Photography.
The agreement, known as the 2+2 program, which is effective for the spring 2024 semester, allows students to take two years of courses at MCCC before transferring to Stockton and graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in a total of four years. The new agreement further strengthens an existing dual admission and transfer partnership signed by the two institutions in January 2019.
“We are excited to deepen our connection with Stockton University,” said Dr. Deborah E. Preston, MCCC President. “The extension of our partnership offers students the ability to transfer academic credits between our two schools saving them both time and money, and ensuring a top notch education in the growing field of photography at two outstanding institutions of higher education.”
While studying at MCCC, students will take courses including general education electives such as English and math, as well as the History of Photography, Digital Photography, 2D Design and more. During their third and fourth years at Stockton, they will participate in courses including Film and Darkroom II and Senior Project Photography.
“Our partnership with Stockton University will further enhance our commitment to providing the best academic opportunities for our students,” said Robert Schreyer, Vice President of Academic Affairs at MCCC. “It is wonderful when two outstanding academic institutions can unite to provide the best educational experience for students and the community.”
The Photography program at MCCC provides for the development of skills in both film-based and digital photography. Topics covered include camera operation, exposure, processing, retouching, manipulation/montage, printing, artificial and natural lighting and more. Emphasis is placed on experiences in the darkroom, digital laboratory, on location and in the studio with the end result of producing a portfolio.
