WEST WINDSOR, NJ – Watching students showcase their designs is always in style at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), and on May 3 an evening of the latest fashion creations presented by students in the Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising programs will dazzle the crowd during the annual Fashion Showcase and Runway Show. The Student Quad Area on the West Windsor Campus located at 1200 Old Trenton Road is the place to be at 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.).
Collections created by 22 students will be modeled by 45 students and staff members. “Students have to think of an inspiration and work that through their collection,” said Fashion Program Coordinator Katina Lindsay. “They have a true passion for fashion and look forward to thematically creating their designs to display to the community.” Some students chose to knit, crochet and/or sew their creations which include materials such as sustainable recycled jeans, old shirts, chains, spikes, sequins, hand painted designs, and more.
Fashion Merchandising students will be responsible for planning and executing all aspects of the show which involve other members of the student body including performances from the dance team, and jazz band and behind the scenes work from Audio Production, Advertising + Graphic Design, and Photography students. Students between the ages of 4-8 from Sprout University School of the Arts in Trenton will be making their debut as “Fashion Fairies” when they proudly walk the runway in custom projects made just for them!
A store front window featuring work by first-year merchandising students will greet guests upon arrival and a 50/50 raffle will be held to raise funds for the fashion club and local charities that support prom experiences for students facing economic barriers. “We wanted to keep community culture in the show,” said Lindsay. “We are fashion with a cause.”
Admission to the show is $9 for adults and $6 for seniors, students and children. In the event of rain, the show will take place in the Gymnasium. For directions and more information about the MCCC Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising programs, visit www.mccc.edu/fashion.
