West Windsor – Maya van Rossum, Delaware Riverkeeper for over 30 years and founder of the national Green Amendments movement, will be the next guest at the Mercer County Community College Distinguished Lecture Series on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. The event will take place at noon in room CM 108 in the Communications Building on MCCC's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. Van Rossum will discuss her book, now in its second edition, “The Green Amendment, The People’s Fight for a Clean, Safe and Healthy Environment.” The talk, which is open to the general public, will focus on van Rossum’s Green Amendments movement and what is happening in New Jersey to secure a constitutional right for clean water and air, a stable climate and healthy environments.
Van Rossum has inspired and served as a community and legislator resource for Green Amendment proposals in 11 states, each at a different stage of advancement, with New York recently passing a Green Amendment in 2021.
Van Rossum's writings have featured in such publications as Bloomberg Law, Law360, The Boston Globe and TIME magazine.
Green Amendments for the Generations is a grassroots non-profit organization inspiring a nationwide movement to secure constitutional recognition and protection of environmental rights in every state and ultimately at the federal level.
