MCCC Seeks Donations to Help Students in Need

11/10/2022

West Windsor, N.J. –  As we enter the final months of tax year 2022, charitable giving is on the minds of many looking to make donations before year end.“What better way to fulfill one’s philanthropic goals than by helping to better the life of a student at Mercer County Community College?” said MCCC Foundation’s Executive Director Joe Claffey. “Contributions are tax deductible and make a real difference in a student’s future,” he said.

Right now, Mercer County Community College is running a "Closing the Gap for a Better Future" fund-raising campaign that provides financial support to MCCC's most vulnerable students. Donations are unrestricted and are the college’s single most important source of student support.

Mercer County Community College serves a diverse population of students across two campuses in West Windsor and Trenton. Most students juggle full- and part-time jobs, family responsibilities and college courses. In a recent poll, 89 percent of Mercer students expressed that they were in dire need of some type of financial assistance. Studies show that students who defer their education seldom return to complete their degrees, leading to undesirable lifelong economic ramifications.

According to Claffey, the most immediate challenges students face involve tuition assistance, technology needs, quality of life issues — including food and housing insecurity — and indirect expenses associated with certain programs.

“It is MCCC Foundation’s goal to ‘close the gap’ in available funds and make education affordable and accessible foreveryone,” said Claffey.

Donations are being accepted online at mccc.edu/ClosingTheGap2022, by wire transfer (contact the Foundation at foundation@mccc.edu for wiring instructions) or by check made payable to “MCCC Foundation.”
