MCCC to Host 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sept. 10

West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) and the County of Mercer invite the community to attend the 20th anniversary remembrance ceremony of September 11, 2001. The event is set for Friday, Sept. 10, starting at 11 a.m. on the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. Seating will be set up outside the Welcome Center on the MCCC Quad. The ceremony will be livestreamed at www.mccc.edu/9-11.  In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be livestreamed only.

All visitors are asked to wear a mask while on campus. Individuals who have not been vaccinated must fill out the college’s symptom tracker form 3 to 12 hours prior to arrival. See the MCCC website at www.mccc.edu for details.

Participating dignitaries will lay a wreath on the college’s memorial bench. Special tribute will be paid to the 30 Mercer County residents who died in the attacks.

Guest Speaker is Major General (retired) Robert A. Karmazin, Director of Police for Hopewell Township. Karmazin has 27 years of operational and investigative law enforcement experience. He retired from the New Jersey State Police in 2015 as a Captain/Bureau Chief assigned to the Special Operations Section. He is a graduate of the FBI’s National Academy and has a long and distinguished military career in support of Special Operations. He has had numerous deployments and served as a liaison with the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, and as an advisor for the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. General Karmazin is a volunteer with Project Transition USA, a nonprofit dedicated to helping transitioning military veterans and their families find meaningful and rewarding civilian careers.

Additional speakers for the Remembrance Ceremony include MCCC President Dr. Jianping Wang, Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes, and MCCC Board of Trustees Chair Mark Matzen. The invocation will be delivered by Rev. Robert Wittik, MCCC chaplain. Musical selections will be performed by MCCC faculty and students.
