West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) swore in its Foundation Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2020-21 last May, the occasion punctuated by the introduction of Dr. Aamir A. Rehman as the board’s newest chairman.

Rehman succeeds former Board Chair Lori Danko, who spent the last three years at the Foundation’s helm. A board member since 2010, Danko’s relationship with the college spans decades. In addition to serving on a variety of Foundation committees, Danko, her husband and son all attended classes at MCCC.

“Lori’s service to Mercer has been tremendous. She served on the Board for 10 years in total, three of which were as chair,” Rehman said. “During her time as chair we doubled the amount of funding for scholarships, held a pivotal Board retreat, and enhanced both our Spring Into Success Gala and our Annual Golf Tournament.

“The Foundation is deeply grateful to Lori for her contributions. I’m especially pleased that Lori will continue to serve as co-chair of the Gala Committee and share her wisdom with the Foundation and the College,” Rehman said.

A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School, Rehman earned his Ed.D from Columbia University Teachers College. In 2018 he became treasurer of the MCCC Foundation Board of Directors and was named second vice chair in 2019. He and his family reside in West Windsor.

Rehman was instrumental in developing the college’s Student Emergency Fund, which provided financial assistance to enrolled students to ensure they could graduate. The entirely virtual campaign quickly met its $50,000 goal and paved the way for the Foundation Board’s subsequent fundraising ventures.

“I have three core goals as chair – financial, strategic, and organizational,” Rehman said. “The Foundation has been steadily increasing the funds available for scholarships, doubling the amount from $375,000 to $750,000 over the past three years. This year, we aim to continue expanding student support and make up to $900,000 available for scholarships.”

From a strategic standpoint, Rehman hopes to use corporate partnerships to foster internship programs, generate educational support, and build awareness of Mercer within the community. “The Foundation can play an active role in helping build strategic relationships for the college that contribute to student success.”

He added, “Organizationally, we seek to tap into the immense talents and enthusiasm of our board members. I have been moved to see the many touchpoints they have with Mercer – as alumni student-athletes, parents, program attendees, donors and much more.”

The MCCC Foundation is an independent nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to establish and carry out enrichment activities that support the mission of the college and the community it serves. The Foundation’s volunteer board members are college ambassadors who seek to develop community understanding and support of the college, its programs and services.

“In challenging times, the need for the Foundation is only greater,” Rehman said. “This is not a time to scale back our contributions, but rather to expand them to meet the need.”
