MCCC 29th Annual Golf Classic Is a Hole-in-One for Student-Athlete Scholarships

Event raises more than $25,000 despite COVID restrictions

West Trenton, N.J. – Supporters of Mercer County Community College (MCCC) took to the links at the Trenton Country Club on Monday, October 5 for the college’s 29th Annual Golf Classic. The day featured great weather, even better food and the common goal of raising money for student-athlete scholarships.

Although fewer golfers than normal were able to participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament stayed well above par, as the MCCC Foundation raised more than $25,000.

“We’ve been doing this event for nearly three decades, and the support it draws continues to be incredible,” said MCCC Foundation Executive Director Joe Claffey. “Even though things are very different this year because of the pandemic, one thing that didn’t change is our community’s commitment to supporting our exceptional student athletes.”

The 2020 tournament was a streamlined production, following federal and state health guidelines. There were no mulligans or raffle prizes this year, in an effort to maintain social distancing between golfers and the staff running the event. Masks were a regular sight (provided by MCCC for golfers who needed them) and some golf carts cruised the green at half capacity.

Competition ramped up at Hole 10, where golfers swung for a hole-in-one and the keys to a new car provided by tournament sponsor Haldeman Auto Group.

Co-chairs for the event included long-time MCCC supporters Dave Fraytak, Brian Bennett and Allen Silk.

Sponsors included:
