07/29/20

West Trenton, N.J. - Mercer County Community College (MCCC) invites friends and supporters of the college’s student-athletes to hit the links on Monday, Oct. 5 for the 29th Annual MCCC Golf Classic for Scholarships, co-hosted by the MCCC Foundation and Athletics Department in partnership with Haldeman Auto Group.

The tournament, which will be held at Trenton Country Club (TCC) in West Trenton, NJ, will be run in conjunction with all local, state and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and mandates regarding COVID-19.

“In planning this year’s Golf Classic, Trenton Country Club has been incredibly accommodating,” said MCCC Foundation Executive Director Joseph Claffey. “The safety of our guests is of the utmost importance for both Mercer and TCC staff.”

This year’s committee is co-chaired by long-time MCCC supporters Dave Fraytak, Brian Bennett and Allen Silk. The money raised from the event goes to directly support student-athlete scholarships. Mercer has been a major player in state and national athletics dating back to its years as Trenton Junior College. Many professional athletes, such as recent MLB call-up Denny Brady began their athletic careers at MCCC with the help of a Foundation Scholarship.

According to MCCC Athletics Director John Simone, “Our students learn important life skills including teamwork and time management. They consistently perform well in the classroom. This tournament lets them know that we believe in them and are investing in their futures,” Simone said.

Golfers can expect the same fun and relaxing environment from previous tournaments. Golfers are invited to breakfast beginning at 9:00 a.m., with the shotgun start to follow at 10:00 a.m.  The tournament will conclude with lunch at 2:30 p.m.

Sponsors for the event include: Haldeman Auto Group (Tournament Sponsor); Homasote (Front Nine Sponsor); IBEW Local 269 (Front Nine Sponsor); Spiezle Architectural Group (Back Nine Sponsor); Stark & Stark (Face Mask Sponsor); Dave Fraytek (Hole Sponsor); Rivertan Risk Management Group (Hole Sponsor); Gene Ragazzo (Hole Sponsor); John Simone (Hole Sponsor); Smires and Associates / United Title Kevin Kerins, Real Estate Broker (Hole Sponsor); Merrill Lynch Wealth Management (Hole Sponsor); PFM Asset Management, LLC (hole Sponsor); Clarke Caton Hintz (Lunch Sponsor); Princeton Air (Beverage Cart Sponsor) and Devin Group, INC (Beverage Cart Sponsor).
