West Windsor, N.J. – The Camp College summer youth camp program, located on the campus of Mercer County Community College (MCCC) in West Windsor, will be in full swing beginning June 21 with in-person camp activities for children ages six to sixteen throughout the summer. Registration for courses opens Monday, March 1.

An enriching alternative to traditional summer day camp, Camp College offers hundreds of courses for either full-day camp or half-camp for kids in and around the Mercer County area. Classes range from science to sports with staggered start dates from June through August and  provide a fun and memorable camp and learning experience.

Rose Fiorello, Director of Youth and Special Programs at MCCC, explained that Camp College’s mission is to provide the finest camp experience for children. The camp is in its (INSERT NUMBER) year and plans have been finalized for an exciting summer 2021 experience.

“We’ve already started receiving inquiries and the excitement is building,” said Rose Fiorello, Director of Youth and Special Programs. “Parents have expressed to me that their children are very much looking forward to returning to the campus for summer fun and learning. Many parents have said that their children can’t stop talking about Camp College and reuniting with their camp buddies.”

Camp College offers a wide variety of courses from which to choose. The full-day “Campus Kids” program offers children a choice of six electives to build a schedule that rotates through a four-week period. A half-day “Specialty” one-week camp allows children to choose one elective for the morning session and a different elective for the afternoon if a full day is desired. Before- and after-camp care services are available as well.

“Kids are really looking to get away from the computer and are ready to be with their friends again,” said Fiorello.

The following is a small sampling of Specialty Camp courses being offered this summer.

Fishing Camp (Ages 10-14)

Discover fishing in our state’s lakes, streams, ponds and a piece of the Atlantic Ocean. With a different adventure and location each day, kids learn successful techniques and clever tricks that will help land the big ones.

Rock-Climbing Camp (Ages 9-14)

Children learn to climb in a safe, fun environment. Climbers will be assigned a belay partner — someone to handle the safety ropes while climbing. No previous skills are required, but safety rules are strictly enforced.

Ecoventure (Ages 11-16)

Experience the very ecosystems of New Jersey alongside a knowledgeable instructor. This action-packed and educational week will include hands-on activities such as deep-sea fishing, tubing, nature hikes, fire building and other activities.

Amusement Park Physics (Ages 9-13)

Ever wonder how those crazy rollercoasters and other amusement park rides are designed and built? Join the Amusement Park Physics class and learn about friction, gravity, momentum, velocity and other effects of force and motion as they relate to theme park rides.

Mad Machines and Rockin’ Robots (Ages 6-10)

Mini Mad Scientists will delve into a multitude of scientific subjects as they learn about the Earth and its animal inhabitants, simple machines, rocketry, flight and chemical reactions - there’s something for everyone!

Sea Camp (Ages 10-15)

Campers will have the unique opportunity of working with an experienced environmental instructor in the outdoor “laboratory” of Sandy Hook and its surrounding waters.

Painting Palooza (Ages 6-14)

Campers will be introduced to the basic fundamentals of painting and drawing.

Glass Fusing (Ages 6-14)

A great creative outlet for boys and girls of all ages. Using colored glass pieces, glass dots, glass frit (sprinkles) and glass noodles, kids create unique and colorful projects. Different techniques will be explored and several pieces including sun catchers, a night light and a mug will be created. All projects will be fired in a kiln overnight by the instructor.

Other courses being offered this summer include workshops in digital photography, counselor-in-training, acting, music, culinary arts, science, chess, academic prep and more.

Also, a huge selection of Campus Kids four-week programs are available this summer with many new courses from which to choose such as:

Chemical Wizards (Ages 7-13)

Have you ever wondered how to use everyday household items as ingredients for science experiments? Join us as we learn about different chemical reactions, grow rock candy, make ice cream and learn the science behind your discoveries.

Cocoa Chefs (Ages 7-13)

Creative Perfumers (Ages 7-13)

Create your own personal favorite scents including floral, woodsy and fruity essential oils. If you love organic homemade beauty products such as different types of foot scrubs, lotions, face masks, exfoliates and even bath bombs, then this is the class for you! Perfume-free products are also available in this class.

Fun with Fruit (Ages 7-13)

Have you ever thought that fruits could be a tasty and healthy treat? You will experience making flavored fruit sorbets, fruit-based ice cream, fruit smoothies and more! Let’s learn to use a food dehydrator and try making your very own snacks using raisins, apple chips, pineapple and more.

Floral Design (Ages 9-13)

Everyone loves flowers! In this class you will learn to design and create your own seasonal wreaths and vase arrangements to share with friends and family. Campers will use tools and learn floral processing and techniques, discuss the meaning of flowers and master vase preparation.
