MCCC’s Kelsey Theatre Presents Shakespeare ‘70 Production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ June 9-18

6/5/2023

West Windsor -- Shakespeare 70 will present the tragic Shakespearean love story Romeo and Juliet , June 9 through June 18 at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre in West Windsor.

William Shakespeare’s timeless Romeo and Juliet takes us to Verona, Italy, where the influential Capulet and Montague families continue a long-standing feud. Violence between members of the households breaks out again and again – and then teenagers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet meet, and fall in love, despite their warring families. The young couple seeks a happy ending, for themselves, and their families -- but the lesson we keep learning about civil wars, then or now, is how hard it is for people to step away from old hatreds...until it is too late.

Trigger warning: This classic story does contain scenes of violence and teen suicide.

The cast features Nick Bettens of Stanhope as Romeo, Adrianna Gonzales of North Bergen stepping in as Juliet as of 5/31, Jayden Lopez of Columbus as Tybalt, Nicholas Walker of Cherry Hill as Mercutio, Emile A. Wong of Hightstown as Benvolio, with Patrick Rounds of Hamilton and Rebecca Callahan of Princeton as Lord and Lady Capulet, Jennifer Boutros of Lawrenceville and Justin Mancini of Hamilton as Lord and Lady Montague. Friar Lawrence is played by Michael Gilbert of Plainsboro and the Nurse is played by Laurie Hardy of Hamilton. Rounding out the cast are Ryan Holcombe as Paris, Michael Kierst-Krahel of Hillsborough as the Prince, Dale Simon of Flemington and special guests as the Prologue, John Erath of Arlington, Va. And Chris Erath of Medfield, Ma as the Apothecary, Meghan Crohe as Carolina/Rosaline, Peyton Estabrook of East Windsor as Abraham, also Lydia Hartmann of Allentown as Paola, Jason Tiger of Columbus as Samson/John, and Emily Dougherty of East Windsor as Francesca.
