11/16/2021

Trenton, N.J. — “Third Thursdays,” the popular monthly photography presentation and artist talk at Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC’s) James Kerney Campus (JKC) Gallery at 137 North Broad Street in Trenton, will take place November 18, 2021 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This month's focus is on the works of darkroom photographer Kyle Lang and and documentary and portrait photographer Chris Facey. The show is curated by Heather Palecek and Habiyb Shu’Aib and the public is invited. Reservations are required.

Hosted by Michael Chovan-Dalton, Director of JKC Gallery, the event will take place in person and on the Zoom conferencing platform.

“JKC Gallery’s Third Thursday monthly events have been a great way for artists and the public to connect in a way that wasn’t possible just a few short years ago,” said Chovan-Dalton. “With the option of attending live or on Zoom, artists have been able to share their experiences and describe their works in a highly personal setting. I always leave these sessions renewed and inspired creatively,” he said.

About the Artists

Kyle Lang is a darkroom photographer who is fascinated by the potentials of this unique medium because, unlike other visual arts, photography records something that has once existed. Lang dedicated his life to the medium and spent time in New Zealand where his passion for landscape photography began. He then flew to Southeast Asia where he decided that art and travelling were two things he could not live without. He has also visited Iceland and Norway. Lang works within a liminal space of contingency, where photography is neither true nor false, creating amazing photographs that speak to philosophy rather than to document.

Chris Facey is a documentary and portrait photographer based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Chris creates images that are powerful yet tender. Inspired by the works of Gordon Parks and W. Eugene Smith, he documents communities with softness and allows space for emotional depth, while still covering hard-hitting issues such as the racial injustices in civil rights -- to combating stereotypes among the black community -- to attempting to bring more awareness to women’s safety. With both vigor and a trained eye, Chris has been making work centering and combating the highly flawed portrayal of the black community and by making images of black love, black joy, black strength, black culture and the beauty of it all.
