West Windsor, N.J. – The Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) will hold its first-ever virtual live art event when it hosts the 2020 Mercer County Artists Exhibit via Microsoft Teams, on Thursday Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

The exhibition is an outgrowth of a partnership between the college and the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission dating back to the mid-1990s. The show, which is also sponsored by Blick and the West Windsor Arts Council, sees selected works from county artists in both two- and three-dimensional media are judged for awards and cash prizes.

This year, 27 pieces from 21 artists were accepted into the show.

According to Gallery Director Alice K. Thompson, it was initially feared that the exhibit would be one of the many events cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We decided to forge ahead and celebrate the arts at a time when we arguably need it most,” Thompson said.

Normally, the exhibition is held as a catered event at the Gallery on MCCC’s West Windsor campus.

“The awards reception would be open to the artists, to their families and to the public,” Thompson said of years past. "This year, our awards will be announced virtually and conducted via Microsoft Teams. No matter the format, it is still cause for celebration."

The show will be juried by Colleen McCubbin Stepanic, a mixed-media artist who has had 13 solo exhibitions of her work and has participated in art projects in Budapest, Hungary and Batoufam, Cameroon.

The awards show for the 2020 Mercer County Artists Exhibit is free and open to the public. To attend the show virtually, visit https://bit.ly/35Eiwpt on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
