After starting the season 1-4, Mercer men’s basketball quickly turned around in December, winning five straight games behind huge contributions from sophomore guard John Evans.
During that stretch, which spanned games against Essex County, Rowan at Burlington, Bucks County, ASA and Manor colleges, the guard lit up the box score, averaging 15.2 points per game while contributing two steals each contest on the defensive end.
“John has improved so much from last year and has really stepped forward as the leader of our team,” Head Coach Howard Levy said. “His energy is contagious, and in general when he is playing well, we are playing well.”
Though Evans and the Vikings finished 2018 with a hard fought, overtime loss to Frederick, the team looks to start 2019 with a bang. The men's team resumes play on Jan. 15 at home against Manor College and follows up with a home contest against Raritan on Jan. 22.
