Trenton, N.J. – Former Mercer County Community College (MCCC) pitcher Nick Economos will return to Trenton on July 31, pitching for the Altoona Curve against the Trenton Thunder at Arm & Hammer Park at 7 p.m.
After leading Viking pitchers in strikeouts in in his final season at Mercer, with 70 and a 7-0 record, Economos was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 21st round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.
"There was a definite excitement whenever Nick was on the mound, with several scouts following each start," former Vikings coach Kevin Kerins said when Nick was drafted.
Since then, Economos spent his first two professional seasons playing for the Pirates’ rookie organization. In 2017, he was promoted to single-A baseball in West Virginia, and continued to play for teams in South Carolina and Florida.
On July 23, 2019, Economos was assigned to the Altoona Curve, which marked his debut at the double-A level. Tonight’s game against the Thunder will be his second with the Curve. For game tickets and information, click here.
