Coming Events

Zumba, Yoga Classes Now Underway
Yoga and Zumba classes for staff and students are now under way! Evening yoga continues through Dec. 9 in PE 225 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday lunchtime yoga classes continue through Dec. 11 in the gym, noon to 1 p.m. See the flyer here. Zumba classes will be held on Tuesdays, through Dec. 10, in the gym from noon to 1 p.m. See the flyer here. There will be no classes during the week of Thanksgiving break. Classes are presented through the Student Life and Leadership office.

Hispanic Heritage Month Festivities Begin Today
Today MCCC kicks off a month of festivities in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Opening ceremonies were held at noon today in the West Windsor Campus cafeteria, featuring guest speaker Dr. Maria Teresa Montilla and authentic Latin cuisine. During Club Day on Thursday, Sept. 19, Chevere Latin food truck will feature empanadas, with salsa dancing lessons, and a Latin band. Closing ceremonies are Oct. 15 at the James Kerney Campus. Deer Management in Mercer County is Topic for MCCC Lecture Sept. 17
The impact of white-tailed deer in Mercer County and the new scientific approach to deer management is the upcoming lecture topic at MCCC on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at noon in CM108. The scientific monitoring of the deer population, along with the challenges that it presents on forest health, will be the subject of the lecture hosted by Jennifer Rogers, Mercer County Naturalist, and Jillian Stark, Senior Land Steward of the Mercer County Park Commission. The talk is the first MCCC Distinguished Lecture for the Fall 2019 semester. Read more here.

Reception, Artist Talk for JKCG 'Kissed & Toothless' Exhibit is Sept. 18
The community is invited to view a unique display of common objects, grouped together to tell a compelling story, at the James Kerney Campus Gallery (JKCG) during a community reception and artist talk on Wednesday, Sept. 18, for the current exhibit “Kissed & Toothless,” by artist Dominica Paige. The reception runs from 5 to 7 p.m., with the talk to begin at at 6 p.m. The show runs through Oct. 8. Read more here.

Health Professions Info Session Sept. 19
The college will offer four upcoming Health Professions Information Sessions, where prospective students will learn about degree programs, career paths, employment opportunities and more. The next session will be held Sept. 19 in MS172 at noon. Dates for other sessions are Oct. 9 at noon in KC240 (JKC), Oct. 24 at noon in MS172, and Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. in MS172. Questions? Last Weekend for 'The Sound of Music' at Kelsey Theatre
It's your last chance to “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” at Kelsey Theatre, as this is the last weekend for the musical classic "The Sound of Music!" Remaining shows are Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Read more here.

Comedy Farce ‘Leading Ladies’ Comes to Kelsey Sept. 27 to Oct. 6
Shakespeare, desperation, romance and a little cross dressing abound when Maurer Productions OnStage presents the Ken Ludwig comedy “Leading Ladies” at Kelsey Theatre. Dates and show times are Sept. 27, 28, and Oct 5. at 8:00 pm and Sept. 29 and Oct. 5 and 6 at 2 pm. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance on Sept. 27. Vivid, 18-Year-Old Memories Recalled During MCCC 9/11 Ceremony
Just like those who watched the news unfold after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, every American vividly remembers where they were on Sept. 11, 2001. For Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri, the keynote speaker for MCCC's 18th Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, he was at a conference in Atlantic City when Earth and time came to a standstill. MCCC Golf Classic is a Grand Slam for Student Scholarships
Supporters of MCCC's student athletes enjoyed great weather, food and sport at the college’s 28th Annual Golf Classic. Hosted at the Trenton Country Club, the event brought local benefactors to the links to raise money for student-athlete scholarships. Read more here.

Prof. Meimei Gao Receives NJ/NY Computer Science Teaching Award
Dr. Meimei Gao, Associate Professor of Computer Science at MCCC, was selected by chairs of New Jersey Computer Science Departments, with involvement of Chairs from New York, for the 2019 NJ/NY Computer Science Teaching Award. Each year, universities and community colleges in New Jersey and New York have the opportunity to nominate one individual for outstanding performance in computer science. Four faculty members were selected in 2019, Gao being the only recipient from a community college. Read more here.

Boyana Georgieva Uses MCCC as a Platform for a Career in Public Servic
Listen to MCCC alumna Boyana Georgieva '16 (A.S., Criminal Justice) speak, and you’d assume she’s been studying English her entire life. In reality, Georgieva, 37, hasn’t so much as sat in on an ESL class. Yet, in the nearly 20 years she’s lived in in the US, she’s not only become fluent in English, but earned multiple degrees and carved out a career in public service in the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. Viking in the Spotlight: Women's Soccer Player Jamie Ervin
Though the MCCC women’s soccer team has cooled off from its strong 4-0 start, sophomore forward Jamie Ervin is helping the team maintain its vigor. This season, Ervin is leading the Lady Vikings' offense by a healthy margin. She’s notched 14 goals through the first seven games this year, eclipsing her nine scored through the same amount of games in 2018. Read more here.

Sept. 25: 2019 MCCC Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit Reception. The focus is on the faculty for the first art show of the season at The Gallery at Mercer County Community College, with the college’s own Visual Arts faculty members putting their personal works on display. The “2019 MCCC Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit” runs from through Thursday, Oct. 10. The community is invited to a reception on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Read more here.

Oct 2: Campus Blood Drive. The first campus blood drive of the year is Wednesday, October 2. The first blood drive of the year, sponsored by Medical Laboratory Technology students, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in SC104. The donor eligibility information sheet, as well and the IScreen information (where donors can complete the history questionnaire ahead of time) is available here. In addition, a raffle sponsored by MLT students at the conclustion of the blood drive will award a Wawa to one of the donors. See the flyer here.

Oct. 7: Poetry, Short Story Reading. If you are an aspiring author or poet, you won't want to miss the MCCC Fiction and Poetry Reading on Monday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in SC104, sponsored by the West Windsor Learning Center. All members from the campus community and the community at-large are invited to read their original work, or to listen to what others present. Light refreshements will be served. Oct. 9: Nursing Program Accreditation Public Meeting. MCCC will host a site review for continuing accreditation of the Nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. The public is invited to meet the site visit team and share comments about the program during a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 3-4 p.m. in CM107. Written comments are also welcome, and must be submitted by Oct. 1. See the public meeting notice and details on submitting written comments here.
