All are invited to the James Kerney Campus' 31st annual "Celebration of Academic Achievement" today, June 3, starting at 6 p.m. The event takes place at the Trenton War Memorial, George Washington Ballroom. A reception with the scholars and their families will follow the ceremony. Eighty graduates from ESL, High School Equivalency, Career Training Institute, and Trenton Makes programs will be recognized. Three graduates will share their experiences in their respective program. The guest speaker is motivational speaker Brad Butler, a Mercer alumnus.
Spread the word! William Paterson University will hold an instant decision day on Wednesday, June 5, from noon to 6 p.m. in LA173. Students can receive an immediate decision on admission to the William Paterson at Mercer Program or to programs on the university's main campus in Wayne. Click here to register.
An eclectic group of overachieving tweens are set to compete in the spelling bee of their young lives. Maurer Productions OnStage presents the comical and endearing “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” complete with audience participation, for two weekends: June 7 to 9 and June 14 to 16. In just two weeks, miniature humans will take over the West Windsor campus with the beginning of the summer camp season! From June 17 through Aug. 16, MCCC will once again open its West Windsor Campus to children and teens ages 6 to 17. Registration has been brisk, but there are still some openings for summer fun in Camp College, Sports Camps and Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts Workshops. Read more here.
Students at MCCC often say that they come to regard the college as a second home and their classmates as family. In some cases, classmates are family. The May 17 Commencement for the Class of 2019 featured three such families graduating together: a mother and her two daughters, a set of twins, and a mother and son. Read more here.
MCCC recognized the academic excellence of more than 100 students during its 2019 Honors Convocation on May 17. Held in Kelsey Theatre just hours before the college’s Commencement, students received certificates and scholarships to recognize their achievements. Read more here.
MCCC held its 42nd annual Employee Recognition Ceremony on May 16, with certificates and gifts awarded for milestone years of service. In addition, two staff members who "go above and beyond" were selected for special honors. Read more here.
The themes were inspiring, the graphics engaging, the colors pleasing, and the calls to action strong. As their capstone project for the year, MCCC’s Advertising & Graphic Design students put their considerable skill sets to work for the Burlington-Trenton-Princeton affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. Four teams presented comprehensive campaigns before a panel of judges, who deliberated in a separate room for close to 30 minutes and returned to provide feedback. Read more here.
MCCC recognized a year of achievement among its Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) students at a ceremony and luncheon on May 9. The alumni speaker for the ceremony, Anida Masuod, a 2013 graduate, recalled her journey at Mercer and the support she received through the EOF program, saying “they see potential in you that you may not be aware of” during her address to graduates. Megan Serfass of West Windsor, who graduated from MCCC in 2018 with an A.A.S. degree in Illustration, took home the coveted "Best in Show" award as 36 artists from throughout the region displayed their creations during the opening reception of the Mercer County Artists 2019 show at The Gallery at Mercer. Taylor Hawkes, a freshman outfielder for the Vikings softball team, was one of a two of players who suited up for all 46 of the Lady Vikings regular and post-season contests, scoring 42 runs on 51 hits and converting 28 putouts on 29 total chances in the outfield. Read more here.
June 17: FEMA Emergency Response Seminar. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will present a seminar entitled "Until Help Arrives" in two three-hour sessions on Monday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 9 p.m. The goal of the seminar is to train the general public on how to best handle a critical incident until emergency services arrive. Both sessions will be held at Princeton University, 701 Carnegie Center. See the flyer here.

Continue to Spread the Word about Free Tuition Through State Program (CCOG). Employees are asked to continue to spread the word to family and friends about the state's new Community College Opportunity Grants (CCOG).
The program, which was launched this spring, provides "free tuition" for students whose household income does not exceed $45,000. It is part of Governor Murphy's 2020 budget proposal, to be voted on by the state legislature by July 1. With passage, students who qualify will receive free tuition for the fall semester.
