This is the last week for exercise classes for the spring semester. Yoga is tonight, May 6, at 5:30 p.m. in PE 225, and on May 8 at noon in the gym. Zumba will be held tomorrow, May 7, at noon in the gym. Classes resume in September.
This is the last week for Rachel Stern's photography exhibit "Orpheus Looked," which explores the classical narratives on tragedy and power in a way that allows the viewer to enter and reexamine these tales through the use of contemporary construction. The show closes May 9. Read more here.
Artists age 18 or older who live, work, or attend school in Mercer County are invited to submit their art for consideration for the “Mercer County Artists 2019” exhibition at The Gallery at Mercer. Artists may enter up to two original works completed since May 2017 in any media except photography. Submission begins with early drop-off on Thursday, May 9, noon to 3 p.m., followed by Saturday drop-off on May 11, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Judging takes place on Sunday, May 12 at 10 a.m. Read more here.

The Human Resources Department encourages employees to consider nominating one or two of their colleagues for the 2019 Employee Human Relations and Employee Community Service Awards. The deadline for nominations is May 8. The awards recipients will be announced at the Annual Employee Recognition Ceremony immediately following the College Assembly on Thursday, May 16. May 11 - 12: Mercer Dance Ensemble in Concert
Organized by Success Coach Nichol Killian, Upward Bound Director Stacy Denton, and Administrative Specialist Kelly Greene, MCCC's "Take Your Child to Work Day" offered a variety of fun activities for approximately 70 children of Mercer employees. According to Killian, 20 employees and numerous students joined in the college-wide volunteer effort, running activities, chaperoning groups of youngsters, and offering prizes and goodie bags. Take a dash of politics, history and mythology and throw in just a bit of kitsch and you have the formula for the photography exhibit “Orpheus Looked” by Rachel Stern, now on display at MCCC's James Kerney Campus Gallery in downtown Trenton. The show will be on display until May 9. Read more here.
The Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics (PCfN) has announced that MCCC Professor of Fine Arts Lucas Kelly will be its inaugural artist-in-residence. Kelly is an interdisciplinary artist and through this residency he will work collaboratively with PCfN on the development of an art project addressing the ambiguity of and constructive nature of human memory. Susan Kozel, Assistant Adjunct Professor of History, has earned a research fellowship at the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies (ICJS) in 2020. The month-long fellowship is located less than a half-mile from Monticello, the former plantation of President Thomas Jefferson. Kozel will be researching Jefferson in relation to the Quakers, also known as the Society of Friends. Read about it here.
Freshman shortstop Paige Metz earned Player of the Week honors from the Garden State Athletic Conference on April 30. After riding the highs and lows of the regular season, Metz and the Lady Vikings finished the regular softball season in top form. The team won five of their last six games, including four straight victories, to finish the season 26-18. Read more here.
The college's Human Resources Department celebrated its administrative professionals on April 24. The morning at the Conference Center started with a breakfast buffet, followed by activities including painting with Dibble and Dabble Creative Center, a quiz game and more. Two employees, Flo Sult (Center for Continuing Studies) and Victoria Beltra (Enrollment Services), were selected for Administrative Professional of the Year awards. See the Facebook photo album here.
June 17: FEMA Emergency Response Seminar. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will present a seminar entitled "Until Help Arrives" in two three-hour sessions on Monday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 9 p.m. The goal of the seminar is to train the general public on how to best handle a critical incident until emergency services arrive. Both sessions will be held at Princeton University, 701 Carnegie Center. See the flyer here.
Through Summer: Camp Registration Underway. From June 17 through Aug. 16, MCCC will once again open its West Windsor Campus to children and teens ages 6 to 17. Registration is currently under way for a diverse list of camp and workshop offerings designed to pique the interests of just about every child. Read more here.
Continue to Spread the Word about Free Tuition Through State Program (CCOG). Employees are asked to continue to spread the word to family and friends about the state's new Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG).
The program, which was launched this spring, provides "free tuition" for students whose household income does not exceed $45,000. It is part of Governor Murphy's 2020 budget proposal, to be voted on by the state legislature by July 1. With passage, students who qualify will receive free tuition for the fall semester.
