The annual Mercer County Artists Exhibition opens today. Works by 36 artists will be on display through July 8. The community is invited to an Opening Reception on May 22 when awards will be announced. Read more here.
As we all know -- breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Beginning on May 22, the HRIM Breakfast Class will be serving a variety of early morning foods in ES111. All menu items are a la carte, with prices starting at $3, with an upcharge for additional items, such as baked goods, juices, etc. The menu is subject to change, so be sure to check the HRIM website for details at www.mccc.edu/hrim. The Breakfast Class will be serving Wednesday, May 22 through Friday, May 24, and Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, May 31. Service is from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., but if capacity is reached, it is possible the doors may close early -- first come, first served. So visit early, and visit often!
In the 1920s, a Tennessee schoolteacher is put on trial for teaching Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. Forte Dramatic Productions presents the acclaimed play “Inherit the Wind” at Kelsey Theatre May 24 through June 2. Please remind your students that Foundation scholarships are still available for the 2019-2020 academic year. The deadline to apply is May 31. An eclectic group of overachieving tweens are set to compete in the spelling bee of their young lives. Maurer Productions OnStage presents the comical and endearing “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” complete with audience participation, for two weekends June 7 to 9 and June 14 to 16. The Class of 2019 proved resilient as commencement ceremonies moved from outdoors to indoors when a rain storm suddenly blew in. The guest speaker was Mercer County Undersheriff Pedro Medina, an MCCC alumnus. The student speaker was Samantha Costa, who graduates with her degree in Paralegal Studies. Business students proved for the second time this semester that they are all business when it comes to competing in industry competitions. At DataFest 2019, held at Rider University April 12 to 14, a team of MCCC students faced off against nine other college teams to solve a challenging data problem. The only community college team to participate, their second-place finish was a real achievement. Read more here.
All that glitters can indeed be gold – and colorful and flashy and elegant. On May 3, Fashion/Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising programs put on a show for an overflow crowd at Trenton Hall that resonated with style, glamour and some serious joy. Read more here. Kelsey Theatre was filled with white coats and smiling faces on May 13, as the college celebrated the graduation of 34 nurses at a Pinning Ceremony. Swedish-born Kasja Myrén Taub was the 2019 valedictorian. For the graduates, the next step comes in the form of the National Council Licensure Exam. Read more here. See the album on Facebook here.
June 17: FEMA Emergency Response Seminar. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will present a seminar entitled "Until Help Arrives" in two three-hour sessions on Monday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 9 p.m. The goal of the seminar is to train the general public on how to best handle a critical incident until emergency services arrive. Both sessions will be held at Princeton University, 701 Carnegie Center. See the flyer here.
Through Summer: Still Time to Register for MCCC Youth Programs. From June 17 through Aug. 16, MCCC will once again open its West Windsor Campus to children and teens ages 6 to 17. Registration has been brisk, but there are still some openings for summer fun in Camp College, Sports Camps and Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts Workshops. Read more here.
Continue to Spread the Word about Free Tuition Through State Program (CCOG). Employees are asked to continue to spread the word to family and friends about the state's new Community College Opportunity Grants (CCOG).
The program, which was launched this spring, provides "free tuition" for students whose household income does not exceed $45,000. It is part of Governor Murphy's 2020 budget proposal, to be voted on by the state legislature by July 1. With passage, students who qualify will receive free tuition for the fall semester.
