An evening of unique fashions and high style awaits as MCCC's Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising programs present their annual "Fashion Showcase and Runway Show." Trenton Hall on the James Kerney Campus will light up with glamour on Friday, May 3, starting at 6:30 p.m. Read more here.
Blast off for a good time as MCCC’s Academic Theater and Dance program presents the campy jukebox musical “Return to the Forbidden Planet.” This cult classic continues its run this weekend at Kelsey Theatre. The Magic School Bus is going to outer space and young theater goers are invited to go along for the ride! The award-winning Theatreworks USA presents its new original musical “The Magic School Bus – Lost in the Solar System” at Kelsey Theatre May 4 at 2 and 4 p.m. This special theater event is based on the original book series published by Scholastic and the classic animated series. MCCC Music students will present three free concerts next week: the Chamber Ensemble on Monday, May 6, the MCCC Chorus on Tuesday, May 7, and the Jazz Band on Wednesday, May 8. All three performances are at 7:30 p.m. in Kelsey Theatre. Read more here.
The final two weeks of exercise classes for the spring semester are this week and next week. Zumba will be held April 30 and May 7 at noon in the gym, and yoga is tonight, April 29 and May 6 at 5:30 p.m. in PE 225, and May 1 and 8 at noon in the gym.
The MCCC Honors Club invited the college community to its student conference, "Millennials and the Future: What Issues Do We Face and What Should We Do?", on April 5 at the Mercer Conference Center. Three students delivered presentations that addressed issues of spirituality, mental wellness, the influence of social media, and the search for contentment. Read more here.
MCCC students Oluwadamilola Olorode and Sanjit Singh will make the most of their summer pursuing academic research at renowned institutions. Olorode heads to Michigan State University's Undergraduate Research Institute in Experiential Mathematics, where he will work on applications of combinatorial games. Singh will conduct research at Cornell University’s Weill Medical School as part of a project that combines artificial intelligence and medical imaging to assist doctors working on patients’ cardiovascular health. When alumna Barri Deptula enrolled at MCCC in 2014, she was part of the NJ Stars program, which offers free tuition to high school graduates in the top 15 percent of their class. Barri did the rest on her own through hard work and finely-honed time management skills. She is currently pursuing her master's degree at Thomas Jefferson University, where she also works as a immunology lab technician. Deptula says, “Looking back at every step I’ve taken toward doing what I love, it all starts with Mercer.” Read her story here.
Congratulations to students who were honored at the April Board of Trustees meeting as part of the college's observance of Community College Month. MCCC faculty and staff nominated more than 50 students; 14attended the April board meeting to receive awards in person. See the photos here.
MCCC's Spring Day, held April 23 on the West Windsor Campus, was bright, sunny and FUN! Students enjoyed a variety of activities, plus great food prepared by culinary students. Students also feasted on empanadas and snow cones. See Facebook photos here.
T-shirts that read "Educate, Engage, Empower, Inspire" set the tone for a great time during Spring Day at the James Kerney Campus. Students enjoyed a barbecue buffet, music, games and more during the festive afternoon and evening event on April 17. See the photos here.
Through May 9: "Orpheus Looked" at the JKC Gallery. Rachel Stern's photography exhibit "Orpheus Looked" explores the classical narratives on tragedy and power in a way that allows the viewer to enter and reexamine these tales through the use of contemporary construction. Read more here.
May 9 and 11: Drop-off for Mercer County Artists. Artists age 18 or older who live, work, or attend school in Mercer County are invited to submit their art for consideration for the “Mercer County Artists 2019” exhibition at The Gallery at Mercer. Artists may enter up to two original works completed since May 2017 in any media except photography. Submission begins with early drop-off on Thursday, May 9, noon to 3 p.m., followed by Saturday drop-off on May 11, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Judging takes place on Sunday, May 12 at 10 a.m. Read more here.
June 17: FEMA Emergency Response Seminar. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will present a seminar entitled "Until Help Arrives" in two three-hour sessions on Monday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 9 p.m. The goal of the seminar is to train the general public on how to best handle a critical incident until emergency services arrive. Both sessions will be held at Princeton University, 701 Carnegie Center. See the flyer here.
Through Summer: Camp Registration Underway. From June 17 through Aug. 16, MCCC will once again open its West Windsor Campus to children and teens ages 6 to 17. Registration is currently under way for a diverse list of camp and workshop offerings designed to pique the interests of just about every child. Read more here.
Continue to Spread the Word about Free Tuition Through State Program (CCOG). Employees are asked to continue to spread the word to family and friends about the state's new Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG).
The program, which was launched this spring, provides "free tuition" for students whose household income does not exceed $45,000. It is part of Governor Murphy's 2020 budget proposal, to be voted on by the state legislature by July 1. With passage, students who qualify will receive free tuition for the fall semester.
