Mercer Dance Ensemble Open Auditions Are Tonight at 7 p.m.
The Mercer Dance Ensemble has announced open auditions for
"The New Edge of Dance,"
a contemporary dance concert to be performed on Saturday, May 11 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m.
Auditions will be held on tonight, Feb. 18, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in CM122 on the West Windsor Campus. The audition will consist of learning two dance sequences and a dance improvisation.
Those auditioning are asked to bring a photo and résumé, and to wear clothing that shows the lines of the body. If dance clothing is not available, dancers are asked to wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement.

Holocaust Center Hosts Roundtable on Capitalism Feb. 19
The Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education Center hosts a student roundtable discussion entitled "Capitalism: Rooted in Democracy or Fascism?" Tuesday, Feb. 19 at noon. The center is located next to the bookstore on the second floor of the Student Center. See the full spring schedule

'Status of Feminism' Is Lecture Topic Feb. 20
Has feminism become more of a trend than a movement? Latina artist Tamara Torres will present a lecture entitled “La Feminista: Soy Yo? (The Feminist, Am I?)” Wednesday, Feb. 20 in CM108 at noon.Torres, a Trenton-based photographer, painter, and performance artist, will discuss what feminism is for different cultures and generations of women, as well as her upcoming photo and video exhibit opening Feb. 28 at the JKC Gallery. Black History Month Events Continue Feb. 20, 21 and 23
Black History Month activities continue on Wednesday, Feb. 20 with a luncheon and panel discussion at the James Kerney Campus from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. On Thursday, Feb. 21, the movie “Eyes on the Prize” will be shown in LA229 on the West Windsor Campus at 3 p.m. and in JKC’s Kerney Hall at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 is a TRIO Day Celebration at Kerney Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. See the full list of Black History Month activities

'Iron and Water' at JKC Gallery Closes Feb. 21
Trenton-based photographer C.a. Shofed's exhibit "Iron and Water" continues at the James Kerney Campus Gallery through Feb. 21. The exhibit features photos of remnants and artifacts of an era that helped build the industrial American city. Read more

Dedication of Robert Pugh Fitness Center Rescheduled for March 24
The dedication of the Robert L. Pugh Fitness Center has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 24 , at 12:30 p.m. in the PE Building. The center is being refurbished and renamed in honor of Bob's 45 years of service and dedication to MCCC. To date, $50,000 has been raised for the project. To RSVP, email Patti Richards at

Winter Edition of Viking Magazine Now Available
The winter isssue of MCCC's
Viking magazine is now available in print and online. The cover story features our Radio students, who have been creating commercials for the airwaves as part of Professor Mitch Canter's Audio Production class. Other highlights include special events this fall, student milestones, academic features, sports news and more. Students, Staff Add to Blood Drive Total
MCCC students led the way during during the American Red Cross Blood Drive, co-hosted by MCCC and Fulton Bank on Jan. 31. More than half the donations came from Mercer students. The drive resulted in the collection of 38 productive units, including five double red cell procedures, that will help up to 114 patients. Read more

Engineering Students Put Classroom Knowledge to Work in Own Backyard
This fall, Mercer's student members of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) decided to put their skills to work to address a drainage problem on the West Windsor Campus -- right outside the Engineering Science Building. With their help, the walkway went from puddles to path. Read more

'Saturated Geometry' Artists Spend Day at West Windsor Campus
“Saturated Geometry,” on display at the MCCC Gallery, features five artists’ distinctive approaches to shape, color and texture. The resulting “wow” factor has made the exhibit popular with gallery visitors of all ages. On Feb. 6, they came to the West Windsor Campus to participate in a panel discusssion with about 70 students and then attend the exhibit's reception. Read more about them and their day at Mercer

Tickets Now Available for Monday Dinner at Student Restaurant
MCCC's HRIM Program will once again present fine dining on Monday nights at the Student Restaurant! Tickets are now on sale for Monday dinners, beginning March 4 and continuing through April 29. Seating is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in ES111. (Note: The restaurant is closed March 18 for Spring Break). Please allow approximately one hour for your dining experience. The men's basketball team is having one of its best seasons in years. Grounded by a total team effort, the sophomore guard is distinguishing himself on the court. He is the first basketball player in decades to have reached the 1,000-point milestone -- and the season's not over yet. Read more

The enthusiasm was contagious as members of MCCC's student clubs encouraged fellow students to get involved during Club Day on Feb. 7. New this year is the Medical Club for students planning on careers in the medical field, while the Latino Club, with advisor Daniel D'Arpa, has been revitalized. Other groups like the SGA, the Music Club, the Physical Therapist Assistant Association and the Intervarsity Club remain as popular as ever. 'Old Havana' Is Theme of Scholarship Fundraiser April 5
Break out the straw fedora, white sport coat, or the floral print dress and get ready for “A Night in Old Havana,” the theme for this year’s MCCC Foundation scholarship fundraiser, “Spring Into Student Success.”
Now in its 30th year, “Spring Into Student Success” will be held on Friday, April 5, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Stone Terrace, 2275 Kuser Road in Hamilton. All proceeds will support student scholarships. Mark your calendars! Read more

Through March 7: 'Saturated Geometry' at the WWC Gallery.The Gallery at MCCC will showcase works by five artists in its group exhibit "Saturated Geometry" through Thursday, March 7. The works of these artists offer their interpretations of formal geometric abstraction and color. Read more

Through April 10: Tax Prep Assistance. MCCC, in cooperation with United Way of Greater Mercer County and the IRS Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, will offer free tax return preparation on Wednesdays through April 10 in SC104, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (No session during Spring Break.) Through Summer: Camp Registration Underway. From June 17 through Aug. 16, MCCC will once again open its West Windsor Campus to children and teens ages 6 to 17. Registration is currently under way for a diverse list of camp and workshop offerings designed to pique the interests of just about every child. Read more

Exercise Classes for Spring: Exercise classes for the spring semester have begun. Yoga is held on Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in PE225 and on Wednesdays, from noon to 1 p.m. in the gym. Zumba classes are on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. in the gym. Presented by Student Life and Leadership, classes are free and open to both students and staff. No classes will be held during Spring Break.
Continue to Spread the Word about Free Tuition Through New State Program (CCOG). As active ambassadors for MCCC, all employees are asked to continue to spread the word to family and friends about the state's new Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG). Also consider passing this information along to churches and community organizations for their newsletters, announcements, and information racks. Hard copies of the flyer are available in the AD Executive Suite, at the Information Desk at the JKC Student Commons, and at the Admissions and Financial Aid suites in the Student Center.
