MCCC Tennis Coach Marc Vecchiolla Named Region 19 Tennis Coaches Association President

9/6/17

Marc Vecchiolla is the newly appointed president of the Region 19 Tennis Coaches Association.

West Windsor, N.J. – Marc Vecchiolla, head coach for men’s and women’s’ tennis at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), was recently appointed president of the Region 19 Tennis Coaches Association. In his new role, Vecchiolla will work to promote and grow team tennis at the community college level in the region and serve as the region’s representative nationally.

Region 19 includes community colleges in New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Vecchiolla’s appointment to the helm of Region 19 tennis is just one of many honors for the accomplished coach, who has become synonymous with tennis in Mercer County. Vecchiolla is the director of tennis operations at Mercer County Park. Under his leadership, the complex was honored with the 2008 U.S. Tennis Association’s National Outstanding Facility Award, which was presented at the U.S. Open. Additionally, Vecchiolla serves as a volunteer on the USTA/Middle States Board of Directors and chairs the Mercer County Tennis Hall of Fame Committee.

Vecchiolla helped to re-establish the MCCC women’s tennis program in 1997 after an 11-year absence. In the last two decades, the women’s team has won the national title four times (1999, 2000, 2002 and 2005) and finished second four times (1998, 2001, 2006 and 2011).

In 2007, Vecchiolla also took over coaching duties for the men’s team after serving as assistant coach. In 2016, the men finished second nationally, the highest finish ever for the program.

Vecchiolla has coached 44 All-Americans and was named the NJCAA National Coach of the Year in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2005.  He became the youngest inductee to the NJCAA Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005, at the age of 36.  This spring, Vecchiolla was presented with the Herschel Stephens Coaching Award, presented to a coach for outstanding service and dedication to the NJCAA Tennis Coaches’ Association.
