
MCCC Pitcher Dennis Brady Drafted in 7th Round by Angels

West Windsor, N.J. – For the fifth consecutive year a baseball player from Mercer County Community College (MCCC) has been selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft. Pitcher Dennis Brady was selected in the seventh round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday.
Brady, the 205th overall pick, was the Region 19 Pitcher of the Year and was named the Pitcher of the Tournament for the Division II National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) World Series. Brady’s 0.96 earned run average was the lowest in the nation, his 11 wins was tied for second, and he was third in strikeouts, with 118 in 84 innings.
Brady transferred to Mercer after a year at East Carolina University. He has a 95-mph fastball and a slider in the high 70s and low 80s. His control has also has impressed scouts, walking only seven batters in 84 innings.
Brady has committed to Old Dominion University, but based on the draft, that commitment may change.
MCCC Baseball Coach Kevin Kerins has no doubt that Brady will have success. "The Angels are getting an excellent baseball player and competitor, and a great person. I feel very confident that Denny will continue to represent our college and baseball program successfully. It has been a pleasure coaching and working with him. His work ethic and passion for the game, along with his selfless attitude, were contagious this past season.”
The Vikings had their best season ever, advancing to the NJCAA national title game before losing 11-5 to Kankakee Community College.
