The Center for Continuing Studies also suggests not purchasing textbooks until seven (7) days prior to the start date of a class to ensure the class is running.

INTRODUCTION TO DENTAL ASSISTING

Prerequisite: High school Diploma or equivalent

Prepare for an entry-level position and become a valuable member of the dental health team as a dental assistant. This One Hundred Twenty (120) hour in-person, Two [2] semester course will introduce participants to the various entities of one of the fastest growing healthcare fields with a curriculum introducing you to the profession of dentistry.  You will learn all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and receive training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in a dental practice. Through In-Person Lecture and Shadowing-Laboratory sessions you will learn dental procedures and the role of the dental assistant. The on-site sessions will provide the opportunity for students to better understand learned concepts through observation and participation in simulated basic dental procedures which highlight the role of the dental assistant. Course content includes an overview of charting, oral and dental anatomy, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and infection control awareness, instrument identification and use, chairside assisting, equipment, Basic First Aid and CPR, and general dental procedures. Upon successfully completing Intro to Dental Assisting 1 and 2, the participant will receive a Certificate of Completion from Mercer County Community College, Division of Lifelong Learning. The textbook, workbook, and Dental Instrument manual, is required and is available in the college bookstore.
