Bob Marchetti, of Hamilton, New Jersey, was a four-year letter winner at Steinert High School before enrolling at MCCC to running Track & Field for the Vikings. He was the 1988 Group 3 state champ in high jump and a member of the undefeated 1988 Steinert boys team, which won the Mercer County and Central Jersey titles.
As a member of the MCCC track team, Marchetti was a four-time Region 19 champ in high jump and a threetime All-American (outdoors in 1989 and 1990, and indoors in 1990). He broke the Vikings’ school record.
After graduating with his associate degree, Marchetti transferred to the University of New Mexico and continued his stellar performance in Track & Field. He won the 1993 Western Athletic Conference title in the high jump, with a school record 7 ft 3 inches that still stands.
Marchetti has a long coaching resume. After coaching at a high school in Albuquerque from 1994 to 1997, he returned to New Jersey, where he served as head track coach at MCCC from 1997 to 2000. He worked as an assistant coach at Rider University from 2000 to 2002, at Murray State University from 2002 to 2003, as a Shore Athletic Club assistant from 2004 to 2009, as head coach at Belmont Abbey College from 2010 to 2011, and again at Rider University from 2012 to 2017.
Marchetti is currently a private track coach with his own coaching service. In his “day job,” he is on the staff of the New Jersey State Lottery.
