Men's Soccer Season Ends with 2-0 Loss in District Championship at Schoolcraft
11/4/23
Livonia, MI-Mercer men’s soccer season comes to an end following a 0-2 loss at Schoolcraft College in the Northeast District Championship. The Ocelots scored one goal in each half to capture the win. Freshman goalie Elias Ruano (Telde, Spain/Juan Pulido Castro) had nine saves in the losing effort. Schoolcraft is 17-2-0 on the season and ranked 6th in the nation.
The Vikings finish the season 9-6-2 and one win away from advancing to the NJCAA Division II National Championship. Mercer advanced to the District Championship following a 3-0 win over Massasoit in the Region 19 Championship.
Mercer Men's Soccer Wins Region 19 Championship

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer (9-6-2) are Region 19 Champions following a 3-0 win over Massasoit (11-2-2) in the Region 19 Championship game. Freshman Francesco Quintavalla (Parma, Italy/Convitto Nazionale Maria Luigia) had a goal and an assist and sophomores Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany/Gesamtschule Duisburg Mitte) and Kida Yamaguchi (Hiroshima, Japan/Aomori Yamada) each added a goal in the win. Freshman Alou Gamby (Landsale, PA/North Penn) had an assist and freshman goalie Elias Ruano (Telde, Spain/Juan Pulido Castro) had the shutout in the net.
Sophomore Dillon Du Toit (Johannesburg, South Africa/Waterstone College) was named the Defensive Player of the Tournament. Sophomore Nkamanyi was named the Offensive Player of the Tournament. Head Coach Widmarc Dalce was named the Region 19 Coach of the Year.
The Vikings will next travel to Region 12 in Michigan for the Northeast District Championship against Schoolcraft College on November 4th with a chance to advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championship.
MCCC Men's Soccer Advances to Region 19 Championship with 3-0 Semifinal Win vs Essex

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer (8-6-2) advanced to the Region 19 Championship game with a 3-0 win vs Essex (4-7-1) in the Semifinal game. Sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany/Gesamtschule Duisburg Mitte) scored his 25th and 26th career goals in the win. Freshman Lesedi Hlabeli (Guateng, South Africa/Redford House Blue Hills) scored the Vikings third goal off a rebound save by Essex’s goalkeeper. Sophomore Felipe Nazario (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Fundacao Bradesco Campinas) added an assist in the win.
The Vikings will play the winner of Massasoit (11-1-2)/Lackawanna (7-4-1) at 12:00 PM in the Region 19 Championship hosted by MCCC.
Mercer Falls at Frederick 1-2

Frederick, MD-Mercer men’s soccer (7-6-2) dropped the second game of their Maryland road trip, losing 1-2 at Frederick Community College (5-3-3). Sophomore Omolemo Matla (Gauteng, South Africa/Waterstone College) scored the Vikings lone goal of the game minutes before the final whistle (86’). Freshman goalie Frederico Gainotti (Parma, Italy/Giandomenico Romagnosi) had four saves in the loss. Frederick scored two first half goals and the Vikings were unable to find the net until late into the second half.
The Vikings will close out the regular season when they host Felician University JV on Friday, October 13th at 4:00 PM.
Mercer Shuts Out Howard CC 4-0 for Third Straight Win
Columbia, MD-Mercer men’s soccer (7-5-2) got their third straight win as they beat Howard CC (7-9) 4-0. The Vikings found the net early (3’) with a goal from freshman Lesedi Hlabeli (Guateng, South Africa/Redford House Blue Hills). The Vikings got another early first half goal (9’) from freshman Diego Orquiz (Chihuahua, Mexico/Valle de Mexico) off an assist from Hlabeli. Sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany/Gesamtschule Duisburg Mitte) scored his 10th goal of the season (78’) late in the second half off an assist from sophomore Kida Yamaguchi (Aki-Gun, Japan/Aomori Yamada School). The Vikings capped off the win with freshman Joao Lourenco (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Cesec Murilo Mendes) scoring his first collegiate goal off an assist from freshman Noah Julius Bauer (Neunkichen, Germany/Gymnasium am Kresberg).
The Vikings have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Frederick Community College (4-3-3) for a 1:00 PM game on Saturday, October 7th.
Mercer Beats Lackawanna 3-1 for Another Big Region Win

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer (6-5-2) got another big Division II Region win as they beat Lackawanna (2-3) 3-1. Freshman Lesedi Hlabeli (Guateng, South Africa/Redford House Blue Hills) scored the first goal of the game off an assist from freshman Francesco Quintavalla (Italy/Convitto Nazionale Maria Luigia). Lackawanna then tied the score 1-1 off a penalty kick goal. Sophomore Felipe Nazario (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored a goal on a penalty kick to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead late in the first half. Omolemo Matla (Gauteng, South Africa)/Waterstone College) had the Vikings third goal early in the second half off an assist from freshman Alou Gamby (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) as Mercer held on to make it over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
The Vikings next travel to Maryland for games at Frederick CC (4-2-3) on Friday, October 6th and Howard CC (6-7) on Saturday, October 7th.
Mercer Edges Essex 1-0 for Big Region Win

Newark, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer (5-5-2) got a big Division II Region win last night as they beat Essex (3-4) 1-0 in a game played at Valisburg Park. Freshman Alou Gamby (Lansdale, PA/North Penn HS) scored the lone goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Felipe Nazario (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Fundacao Bradesco Campinas). The Vikings defense held the Wolverines to just one shot on goal.
Mercer will next take on another Division II Region opponent when they host Lackawanna (3-3) on Saturday, September 30th at 12:00 PM.
Mercer Falls to #1 Ranked Monroe 0-3
9/22/23
New Rochelle, NY-Mercer men’s soccer (4-5-2) lost to Monroe College (7-0) 0-3. Monroe is currently the top ranked team in NJCAA Division I soccer and won the NJCAA National Championship last season. The Vikings were limited to no shots on goal in the loss. Mercer was only down 0-1 at halftime and kept the game within a goal until the 74th minute when Monroe went up 2-0. The Mustangs scored a goal in the final minute to go ahead 3-0. Freshman goalie Federico Gainotti (Parma, Italy/Giandomenico Romagnosi) had three saves in 32 minutes in goal.
The Vikings next travel to Essex (2-2) for a game on Wednesday, September 23rd at Valisburg Park in Newark.
Late Alou Goal Gives Mercer 2-1 Win at Carroll CC

Westminster, MD-Mercer men’s soccer (4-4-2) reached the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 2-1 come from behind win at Carroll CC (1-5). The Vikings trailed 0-1 twenty minutes into the game but tied the game 1-1 late in the second half (77’) thanks to a goal from freshman Francesco Quintavalla (Italy/Convitto Nazionale Maria Luigia). Freshman Gamby Alou (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) scored with two minutes (88’) left in the game to give the Vikings the 2-1 win.
After starting the season 0-3-1, the Vikings have gone 4-1-1 in their last six games. Mercer will next take on the top ranked team in NJCAA Division I men’s soccer when they travel to Monroe College (5-0) for a 5:00 PM game on Friday, September 22nd.
Mercer Battles Harford to 1-1 Tie

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer (3-4-2) played Harford (3-1-2) to a 1-1 tie. Sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany/Gesamtschule Duisburg Mitte) scored his ninth goal of the season. Freshman goalie Federico Gainotti (Parma, Italy/Giandomenico Romagnosi) had six saves in the tie.

Mercer Holds off RCSJ-Gloucester for Third Win of Season

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer (3-4-1) picked up their third win of the season with a 3-2 victory over RCSJ-Gloucester (2-2). The Vikings had three first half goals including two by sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany/Gesamtschule Duisburg Mitte). The Roadrunners scored a late second half goal (82’) to pull within one goal but the Vikings held on for the win. Sophomore Kida Yamaguchi (Akigun, Japan/Aumori Yamada) added a goal and sophomore Naoya Obata (Nishitokyo, Japan/Austin Heights International) and freshmen Lesedi Ramosa Hlabeli (Gauteng, South Africa/Redford House Blue Hills) and Francesco Qunitavalla (Parma, Italy/Convitto Nazionale Maria Luigia) each added an assist in the win.
The Vikings have a big Region matchup Saturday, September 9th when they travel to Essex CC (0-0) for a 3:00 PM game.
Mercer Scores Second Win with 5-0 Shutout at Middlesex

North Brunswick, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer (2-4-1) picked up their second win of the season with a 5-0 victory at Middlesex CC (0-1). Freshman Lesedi Ramosa Hlabeli (Gauteng, South Africa/Redford House Blue Hills) and sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany/Gesumtschule Duisburg Mitte) each had two goals and sophomore Kida Yamaguchi (Akigun, Japan/Aumori Yamada) added a goal in the win. The Vikings had five different players assist on their five goals. Freshmen Noah Julius Bauer (Neunkirchen, Germany/Gymnasium am Kresberg), Francesco Qunitavalla (Parma, Italy/Convitto Nazionale Maria Luigia), Danny Pirgo (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown HS), Brian Kmiec (Chesterfield, NJ/Notre Dame HS) and sophomore Omolemo Matla (Gauteng, South Africa/Waterstone College) each had an assist in the win. Freshman goalie Federico Gainotti (Parma, Italy/Giandomenico Romagnosi) had four saves in the shutout.

Mercer Falls to Raritan Valley 0-4

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer fell to 1-4-1 on the season following a 0-4 loss vs Raritan Valley (2-1). Raritan had three second half goals that sealed the win over Mercer.
The Vikings will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Middlesex CC for a 4:00 PM game on Tuesday, September 5th at David Crabiel Park.
Mercer Routs Rockland 11-0 for First Win of Season

Sophomore Felipe Nazario (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Fundacao Bradesco Campinas) led the Vikings with a hat trick and an assist and freshman Noah Julius Bauer (Neunkirchen, Germany/Gymnasium am Kresburg) added three assists in the win. Garden City, NY-Mercer men’s soccer (0-3-1) forced a 2-2 tie with Nassau CC (1-0-1). Sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Cologne, Germany/Gesamtschule Duisburg Mitte) and freshman Diego Alonso Orquiz (Chihuahua, Mexico/Valle de Mexico) each scored a goal for the Vikings. Freshman Lesedi Ramosa Hlabel (Gauteng, South Africa/Redford House Blue Hills) had two assists in the tie.

Late Goal Gives Suffolk 4-3 Win over Mercer in Vikings Home Opener

West Windsor, NJ-Mercer men’s soccer fell to 0-3 on the season following a 3-4 loss vs Suffolk CCC (2-0) . The Sharks broke a 3-3 tie with just under three minutes left in the game to spoil the Vikings home opener. Sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Duisberg, Germany) had two goals and sophomore Omolemo Matla (Vereeniging, South Africa) had two assists for the Vikings. Freshman Alou Gamby (Lansdale, PA/North Penn HS) also scored a goal in the loss. Freshman goalie Federico Gainotti (Parma, Italy) had seven saves in the losing effort.
The Vikings will look for their first win of the season on Tuesday, August 29th when they travel to Nassau CC (1-0) for a 6:00 PM game.
Men's Soccer Falls to 0-2 Following a 1-3 Loss at Harcum

Conshohocken, PA-Mercer men’s soccer fell to 0-2 following a 1-3 loss at Harcum (2-0). The Vikings were down 0-2 until a late first half goal by sophomore Omolemo Matla (Vereeniging, South Africa) off an assist from sophomore Teddy Nkamanyi (Duisburg, Germany) put the Vikings within one goal.
The Bears scored a late first half goal to give Harcum a 3-1 lead which remained the final score as both teams were scoreless in the second half. Freshman goalie Federico Gainotti (Parma, Italy) had six saves in the loss.
The Vikings will next play in their home opener on Saturday, August 26th vs Suffolk CCC at 12:00 PM.
Mercer Loses Season Opener 1-2 at CCBC-Catonsville

Catonsville, MD-Mercer men’s soccer (0-1) opened the 2023 season with a 1-2 loss at CCBC-Catonsville. The Vikings fell behind 0-2 early in the second half before getting a late goal from freshman Max Furrer (Kirchzarten, Germany). Freshman goalie Federico Gainotti (Parma, Italy) had seven saves in the loss.
