West Windsor, NJ-Mercer baseball (15-6) pulled off a big come from behind win to upset the top ranked DIII RCSJ Gloucester (21-2) 5-3. The Vikings were trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning when freshman Geno Bianco (North Wales, PA/Lansdale Catholic) hit a grand slam to take the lead and give the Roadrunners their first road loss of the season. Freshman Alex Bischoff (Hamilton, NJ/Allentown HS) was 2 for 4 and sophomore Owen Friddell (Delran, NJ/Delran HS) added an RBI in the win.
Sophomore pitchers Matteo Gravano (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra HS), Christian Kegel (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown), James Hyman (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West), Hamlet Disla (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) and Michael Whitmore (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and freshman Tony Kownacki (Bordentown, NJ/Nortern Burlington) allowed no earned runs in nine innings.
This was the first time MCCC baseball has beaten RCSJ Gloucester in a nine-inning game since the 2017 season.
The Vikings have a quick turnaround as they travel to Salem CC (10-13) for a 3:00 PM game on Wednesday, March 26th.
