NJCAA Tennis Hall of Famer and long-time MCCC Tennis Coach Marc Vecchiolla has retired as Head Women's Tennis Coach following an incredibly successful career. Vecchiolla will remain as an Assistant Coach with the program.
Vecchiolla has coached the only four MCCC women’s teams to win NJCAA National Championships (1999, 2000, 2002, 2005).Vechiolla had 121 wins with the MCCC women’s program and 89 with men’s tennis. Vecchiolla coached the Mercer women’s tennis program for 24 years from 1997-2024. Vecchiolla coached 32 women’s NJCAA All-Americans, including 12 two-time All-Americans. Vecchiolla coached the MCCC men’s tennis team for twelve years from 2008-2019 and coached thirteen All-Americans. Between the men's and women's programs, Vecchiolla has coached a total of 45 All-Americans. Vecchiolla has coached 169 players on 37 different teams and collected 210 wins between the two tennis programs.
Vecchiolla is a four-time NJCAA National Coach of the Year (1999, 2000, 2002, 2005) for women’s tennis. In 2005, Vecchiolla became the youngest inductee into the NJCAA Tennis Hall of Fame at the age of 36. In 2017, Vecchiolla was honored with the Herschel Stephens Coaching Award, presented to a coach for their outstanding service and dedication to the NJCAA Tennis Coaches’ Association.
Vechiolla, does not take credit for the programs' success. "All of our success couldn’t have happened without the support of the wonderful people in the Athletic Department, our various school presidents, the leadership of Athletic Directors John Suarez, John Simone and Eric Grundman and coaches Barb Pleva, Ralph Bencivengo, Andy Stoll and Qasim Khan, and all of my wonderful players. These are relationships that have enriched my life. I’m very thankful to have had this opportunity and to have had so many incredible experiences."
Vecchiolla has served as Director of Tennis Operations with the Mercer County Park Commission since 1994. In 2008, the Tennis Complex at Mercer County Park received the US Tennis Association’s National Outstanding Facility Award, which was presented at the US Open. Vecchiolla has served on the Board of Directors for USTA Middle States Section and is Chairperson for the Mercer County Tennis Hall of Fame. Vecchiolla is also President of the Region 19 Coaches’ Association.
