Mercer men’s basketball 2023-2024 schedule will feature 25 games and 11 home games. The Vikings will play in three scrimmages before their first game: one at Compass Academy on October 21st followed by two home scrimmages: Bergen CC on October 26th and Brookdale CC on October 28th.
The regular season opens November 4th and 5th at a tournament at CCBC Dundalk in Maryland. The Vikings take on College of Southern Maryland in their season opener November 4th and will play CCBC Catonsville on Nov. 5th. The Vikings will have their home opener on Tuesday, November 14th when they host Middlesex CC.
Mercer will face two top Division II opponents this season. The Vikings will host Niagara CCC on December 17th, the Vikings final home game before the holiday break. Niagara finished the 2022-23 season ranked 2nd in the NJCAA Division II poll following a 29-1 season and a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.
The Vikings will also take on another top Division II opponent on the road when they travel to Orange CCC on January 27th. Orange went 29-1 last season, reached the NJCAA National Tournament and finished the regular season ranked 5th in the Division II poll.
The Vikings final game of 2023 will be on December 21st at County College of Morris. Mercer opens up 2024 with a home game on January 6th vs Montgomery-Rockville CC. The Vikings final regular season home game is February 10 th vs CC of Morris. The final regular season game of the year is on February 13th at Middlesex CC.
Key Region games for the Vikings are against Lackawanna, on the road on November 21st and at home on January 16th. The Vikings host Raritan Valley CC on December 2nd and will be away on January 25th. The Vikings travel to Essex CC on December 7th and will host the Wolverines on February 1st. The Vikings host Del Tech on November 28th and will travel to Del Tech on January 23rd.
Other non-Region home games for the Vikings this season are against Middlesex CC on November 14th, Cecil College on December 12th and SUNY Ulster on December 16th. The Vikings host traditional Division I power Harcum College on January 20th.
Road games for the Vikings include trips to RCSJ-Gloucester on November 9th, Frederick CC on November 18th, Atlantic Cape CC on January 11th, Camden CC on January 30th and Rockland CC on February 8th.
The Vikings went 12-15 in the 2022-23 season and just missed qualifying for the Region 19 Playoffs. Mercer will return six players from last year’s squad including 1st Team All-Region 19 performer Izaiah Johnson (Burlington/Burlington City). Over the summer, Johnson was invited to the NJCAA Rising All-Star Game at Iowa Western Community College. The showcase featured the top 60 returning NJCAA players.
The fou other returning players for the Vikings are Jason Mark (Broward, FL/Blanche Ely HS), Isham McClain (Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton HS), Anthony Rhodes (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) and Kristian Smith (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham). Howard Levy enters his 15th season as Head Coach of the Vikings and will be assisted by Kevin Allison.
