MCCC Women's Soccer Lose Heartbreaker 2-1 in Region 19 Championship Game

Mercer women’s soccer (4-6-2) season came to a heartbreaking end in the Region 19 Championship game with a 2-1 loss vs Essex (3-6).  Essex scored two first half goals and the Vikings were unable to recover from the early goals.  Freshman Laura Kucharz (Singen, Germany/Freidrich Wohler Gymnasium) scored the lone Viking goal on a penalty kick midway through the second half.  Freshman goalie Celina Oliveira (Villa Praia de Ancura, Portugal/Escola Basica e Secoudario Do Vale Do Ancura) had eight saves in the loss.

After starting the season 0-5, the Vikings won four straight games followed by two 0-0 ties heading into the Region 19 Championship game.  The Vikings had four players earn All-Region 19 honors: freshmen Kucharz, Fiona Madigan (Dublin, Ireland/Fingal Community College), Annika Maringer (Asperg, Germany/Gymnasium IB) and Oliveira.
